Day 1 - Embarkation in Tokyo

After a delicious breakfast at our hotel, we met our Blacklane driver for the short drive to Harumi cruise port. We arrived at 10:45am and several guests had already arrived and were checking in.

After a brief check-in and completing the health questionnaire, guests were seated in a waiting area.

Boarding began promptly at 11am and, since it was raining, Silversea staff holding umbrellas, escorted guests to the ship where we boarded on Deck 3. We were taken by elevator to Deck 5 where we were greeted at Dole Vita, the ship’s main lounge. Glasses of wine and mocktails were offered, but surprisingly, no Champagne greeting. That is a first for us on Silversea.

A table of canapés was available for snacks since lunch does not begin until 12 noon. The only option for embarkation lunch on this sailing was La Terrazza, the ship’s buffet. Sadly, Atlantide was not open for lunch.

As soon as we arrived in Dolce Vita, Rickee went to the Reception desk to find out if they could keep her prescription eyedrops frozen. She was told that they have no way to do this. Fortunately, we had been greeted by Robbie, the Hotel Manager, when we boarded the ship on Deck 3 and he mentioned that if there was anything we needed to reach out to him.

Rickee wasted no time heading to the Hotel Manager’s office to see if he could offer any assistance. He assured her it would be taken care of and that they could keep her eyedrops frozen in the galley.

We spent most of the day unpacking and relaxing. For dinner this evening, we had reservations at La Terrazza, Silversea’s Italian bistro.

The menu at La Terrazza changes every few days. I think there are three different menus in the rotation. This is so, on longer cruises, guests can dine here multiple times and have some variety.

We are presented with a bread basket and antipasti platter. The antipasti is not nearly as impressive as it was in years past on Silversea. We noticed smaller portions in several venues during this cruise. They have also done away with the welcome glass of Prosecco that used to be offered at La Terrazza. Of course, you can still order a glass of Prosecco, but they used to bring it automatically. This is a small detail that is missing but, as I say, when it comes to luxury, details matter.

I had a basil peso linguine as a starter and it was perfectly cooked al dente and flavorful. However, it did need salt.

For my main course, I had the breaded and fried veal chop, which I have had on previous Silversea cruises. This veal chop was cooked nicely, but I would have preferred the salad off to the side instead of piled on to the top of the chop. In my opinion, the plating could be improved.

Rickee had a poached egg on asparagus dish that she really enjoyed.

We skipped dessert this evening, as we often do. After dinner, we stopped by Panorama Lounge for an after dinner drink, then off to bed. Tomorrow, Silver Moon is scheduled to be docked in Osaka, Japan.
