Day 14 - At Sea Crossing The Atlantic

Day 14 - At Sea Crossing The Atlantic

Ship: Princess Cruises’ Sun Princess
Itinerary: 16-Night Transatlantic - Southampton to Fort Lauderdale

After spending most of the day relaxing in The Dome (Deck 18 forward), we were excited to get ready for our dinner tonight at Love by Britto, one of the exclusive specialty restaurants on Sun Princess ($79 per person). This dining experience is not covered by the Premier Package.

Access to the restaurant, which is located on Deck 17 aft, is via two special glass elevators at the very back of the ship.

The curved dining room offers every patron a view of the ocean, daylight permitting. There are a few tables for four, but most are for two. Contrary to information I found on the Internet, there is no bar at Love by Britto, so if you want to have a drink before dinner, you will need to find it elsewhere.

Upon arrival, we were seated at a table for two right next to a window with a perfect view of the ship’s wake.

Even before the menus are presented, we are offered a complimentary glass of Prosecco served in a very romantic champagne flute with a glass heart blown into the stem. The attention to the love theme detail can be seen everywhere.

Even the bread is served in the shape of a heart and served with butter shaped into the word LOVE.

The restaurant refers to this as a 5-course menu, but that includes the Intermezzo (palate cleanser), which was quite good, but I am not sure I would call that a “course”.

The Amuse course that we both selected was a ravioli stuffed with pumpkin and Ricotta cheese. It was extremely light, but expertly prepared and plated. All of the dishes served here are beautifully presented.

After the first of our five-course meal concluded, we were continually being interrupted by an egregious hacking cough from the woman sitting behind Rickee. Let’s just say, it was not appetizing. Rickee asked our waitress if we could be moved to another table, and she did not hesitate to move us to one of the booth-style tables on the other side of the dining room.

Rickee claimed that her salad with Beets, Figs and Goat Cheese was delicious (below). Can you see how all the veggies are cut into a heart shape?

My heart-shaped tuna tartare salad served with pomegranate and avocado was also very delicious

My pistachio-crusted “rack” of lamb was a single lamb chop, which was perfectly cooked and delicious, but a second chop would have been greatly appreciated.

A better main course selection was Rickee’s Duet of Prime Beef & Wagyu, Cracked Pepper, Red Wine Reduction, which was much more substantial.

For dessert, Rickee and I shared two dessert selections. The Artisan Cheese with Honeycomb (below) was very good, however, the honeycomb was actually sugar in the shape of honeycomb, not actual honeycomb.

The Chocolate Lava Cake (below) is the most impressive dessert. The “cake” resembled more of a heart-shaped chocolate mousse than a cake and is drizzled with liquid chocolate at the table. It is served with a quenelle of vanilla ice cream.

The Sommelier, Gift, helped us to choose a good Cabernet to enjoy with our main course. Service was excellent and Love by Britto was one of the most unique dining experiences we have enjoyed on a cruise ship. At $79 per person, it is a bit pricey, but we think it is well worth it.

Tomorrow, we will be at sea as we continue our journey back to the USA. We have reservations to dine at Crown Grill once again. We are also keeping a close eye on Hurricane Milton and how it may affect our arrival back to Fort Lauderdale.
