Blomsterbugt & Ella Ø
This morning we awake to even more amazing mountain formations as we sail through Kong Oscar Fjord in Greenland.

At 10am, we board the Zodiacs for the short ride over to Blomsterbugt. You may notice that Rickee has removed the quilted liner from her parka as it is much warmer today. We plan on taking these liners home with us.

Our Zodiac arrives on the shore for the not-too-wet landing. We slide to the front of the Zodiac, swing our legs over, and step off into about 8” of water. That’s why we have the Muck boots and waterproof pants!

As we begin our walk up the path, the scenery, once again, is breathtaking with an impressive iceberg floating just off shore.
We stop to get some photos and video of SH Vega from the island.

SH Vega posts guards all along the pathways, which are marked for guest safety. Excursion leaders carry rifles and are trained on how to use them in the even Polar Bears are sighted. We walk to a tar paper covered trapper’s hut and get to take a peek inside.

We make a bit longer hike up a rocky marked path to get better views of the bay, and just to get some much needed exercise. Walking sticks are provided for guest use if needed.
Once we are at the top of the hill, we take in all of the scenery and majesty of this destination.
Back on board SH Vega, we are greeted with a wam cup of mixed berry tea to warm us up a bit.

The crew has put together a beautiful Mediterranean buffet on the Pool Deck for guests to enjoy at lunchtime.

After lunch, we are invited to tour the Engine Control Room on Deck 3. Chief Engineer, Anatoliy Popadyuk, from Ukraine, explains the various systems that power the vessel.

This afternoon, we make a second Zodiac landing on the island of Ella Ø. Our Zodiac is met by Excursion Leader, Nicki D’Souza, who once again warns guests not to stray to the left side of the beach where a military installation is located.

We walk about a half a mile, up hill, where we come upon a peaceful lake surrounded by mountains. This was a short, but powerful visit to a place few have the opportunity to visit.

This evening, we have been invited to have dinner at the Captain’s Table as guests of Captain Lyubomir Garciyanov. The Captain greets each of us in the lobby and escorts us into the Swan Restaurant to his private table.

We are joined by a handful of other guests, Staff Captain, Artur Yevhenovych, and Hotel Director, Ferdinand Fernandes. Rickee was seated next to the Captain and he took the time to show her some photos he took of the Northern Lights. Captain Garciyanov is one of the most personable, and approachable Captains we have ever sailed with. In fact, everyone on the Senior Staff is very approachable.

Our meal with Captain Garciyanov was one we will not soon forget and we very much appreciate being invited. The conversation and the meal were exceptional.
Tomorrow is a day at sea and we are looking forward to many lectures and other on board events.
