Day 7 - At Sea

The seas are relatively calm this morning as Brilliant Lady sails toward Victoria, B.C. We did have to make a small detour due to a medical emergency, but we were assured that it would not affect our itinerary, or our arrival in Victoria. Hopefully, the individual who had to be evacuated is recovering.

This morning, we are back at Rojo for their brunch, or in our case, breakfast. We have had no trouble simply walking in and getting seated. Once again, my eggs were cooked perfectly over medium.

This morning we join the energetic Dulci, “The Glow”, for a game of Landscape Trivia. Once again, there are many teams playing trivia. We suspect this is because, due to colder temperatures, more people are spending time indoors.

Later this afternoon, we head to The Manor for another show performed by Abi, The Hostess. The show, LOVE LOVE LOVE once again demonstrated the vocal range of The Hostess, which is quite incredible.

The Hostess is not shy about interacting with the audience during this show. She would routinely move through the aisles as she sang, and even involved audience members in the show. It was a lot of fun and a show we can highly recommend.

For dinner this evening, we are back at Rojo for the second time. We re-ordered some of our favorites from our first visit, and tried a few new items. One of the specials this evening was the Roasted Garlic Soup, which I loved. The crusty baguette bread is also served warm with olive oil and is very good.

Rickee wanted to try the Pimentón Cheese with Crostini (see below). The cheese was a little spicier than she was expecting and had a smokey flavor that she did not care for.

We each ordered the Jamón Iberico ham starter, which is honestly one of the best proscuitto-style hams I have ever had. I also re-ordered the Oxtail Montadito and it is definitely my overall favorite. It may look unappetizing, but the meat has a slightly sweet taste and is remarkably tender.

For her main course, Rickee ordered the Baked Cod which she said was cooked perfectly. She also remarked that the dish was served HOT, which is something the galley seams to struggle with in other venues. However, the menu says the fish was supposed to be topped with an olive tapenade, and none could be found on her portion. Nevertheless, she ate the entire piece of fish. And, if you know Rickee, you know she will not finish anything unless she likes it.

I had to reorder the Baby Back Ribs because they were so good on our first visit. These ribs were equally as good, but had a slightly different glaze than I remembered. On our first visit, the ribs had more of a reddish color to them. Still, I had no trouble devouring them.

Purely for the sake of journalistic integrity, I also ordered the Grilled Ribeye. I could only finish about half of it, but it was very tender and perfectly cooked medium as ordered. For me personally, it did not need the sauce on top. The steak was good enough to stand on its own. THIS is the best steak on the ship and MUCH better than either of the steaks we tried at The Wake.

Our waiter insisted that we share an order of the crème brûlée. The portion was definitely large enough for two people to share. The delicious custard was topped with a crunchy brûlée (caramelized sugar) and finished with a whipped cream quenelle. It was decadent and delicious.

Hands down, Rojo is our favorite restaurant on Brilliant Lady. We have dined here for brunch twice and for dinner twice, and been impressed with each visit. Watch for our full dining review of Brilliant Lady’s restaurants coming soon to our YouTube Channel.
