Day 5 - Tortola, B.V.I.

This morning, Norwegian Aqua is docked in Tortola, British Virgin Islands. Many guests will be doing shore excursions here this morning. As with the other ports on this cruise, we have been to Tortola many times. Been here, done that, got the magnet. So, we may get off the ship just to walk down the pier and check out some of the local shops, but we have nothing scheduled. The all-aboard time today is 1:30pm, so it is not a long stay.

I decided to start off the morning with breakfast at The Local and thought I would try the outdoor seating. The indoor temperature on the ship is uncomfortably cold, so it is nice to sit outside where it is warm.

Rickee disembarks Norwegian Aqua in Tortola

It has probably been ten years since we were last in Tortola and not much has changed. The same shops line the streets, and it is just as hot as we remembered it being.

There is a nice photo spot where you can take pictures with the ship in the background.

On the walk back to the ship, it was nice to see that Norwegian Aqua has set up a refreshment stop with ice water for guests returning to the ship.

Refreshment Station

As soon as we are back onboard, we continue our walk on Deck 8. We find one of the infinity pools unoccupied. That water looks pretty tempting in this heat today.

This evening we have dinner reservations at Hasuki, the Teppanyaki restaurant.

Hasuki Teppanyaki Restaurant

Even though all the seating around each grill is for eight, there were only six people seated at our table. Once we were seated, we began perusing the menu. Rickee decided on the steak and shrimp combo and I ordered the steak and chicken combo.

Hasuki menu

Our chef was very engaging and entertained us with his singing as he prepared the meal. There are a lot of tables in Hasuki. In fact, this might be one of the largest Teppanyaki restaurants we have been to. The noise levels are intense, so be prepared for a raucous and loud experience. However, the food was very good and that, combined with the entertainment factor, makes Hasuki a decent value at $60 per person. In fact, the steak we had at Hasuki was better than the one we had at Cagney’s!

I was a little surprised by being presented with a check at the end of the meal which is basically requesting not one, but TWO additional tips! The ticket clearly states that a 20% gratuity has already been figured into the price. Is this a new thing?

When we left Hasuki we were stuffed. The portions of each course that our chef gave all of us at the table were more than anyone could finish. It was a delicious meal and we would do it again. However, next time, we would bring ear plugs.

Tomorrow is a day at sea.
