Day 18 - Our Final Day At Sea

Day 18 - Our Final Day At Sea

Ship: Princess Cruises’ Sun Princess
Itinerary: 16 18-Night Transatlantic - Southampton to Fort Lauderdale

Our 16-night transatlantic sailing on Sun Princess has turned into an 18-night sailing thanks to Hurricane Milton. We have to consider ourselves fortunate to be on a comfortable cruise ship in calm waters during a period where so many in Florida are concerned about the devastating effects of the hurricane.

We anticipate this will be our last full day aboard Sun Princess and we decide to have breakfast in Horizons Dining Room on Deck 6. We are seated at a table for four with an ocean view. One sign of a premium cruise line is that there are tablecloths and linen napkins at every meal.

Rickee ordered Eggs Benedict, which honestly, were a little undercooked. The perfect poached egg is one where the yolk is runny, but the egg whites are completely cooked. This is the third time our eggs have come out with runny egg whites. Another 30 seconds in the poaching liquid would have resulted in perfectly cooked eggs.

Rickee also ordered some pancakes, which were tasty, but unfortunately, served cold.

My ham-and-cheese omelette was served hot with melted Swiss cheese and was tasty. The English Back Bacon was good as was the pork banger. I forgot to order my favorite: Corned Beef Hash.

After breakfast, we decided to check out Deck 19, which has been closed for much of the cruise because of construction, or more accurately, de-construction. Workers have been removing the Park 19 attractions during the crossing. The jogging/walking track is still in tact, however.

There is comfortable seating on Deck 19. I am not sure how much of this will remain.

Some of the so-called “attractions” are nothing more than some glass panels that allow you to look over the side of the ship. Not as scary as promoted.

We visit the Lotus Spa on Deck 18 where I make an appointment for a pedicure. I have to spend some of that non-refundable shipboard credit.

We took a quick self-guided tour of the spa and can see that is very nicely equipped.

When I show up for my pedicure, can you believe that the same young lady who performed my pedicure in 2022 on Discovery Princess was now working on Sun Princess? We quickly recognized each other and I pulled up my 2022 Discovery cruise blog where I had featured a photo of her.

Later this afternoon, it was time for Rickee and I to enjoy one of the Premium Desserts at Coffee and Cones on Deck 17 midship. The Godfather, with added caramel sauce, is the way to go.

Later in the afternoon, we returned to Bellini’s for a cocktail and, rather than going to dinner, we decided to use the OceanNow app once again to order some snacks delivered to us at the bar. This was the third time we have used OceanNow and it has worked well every time. This is the same system you use when ordering room service. Although the menu is somewhat limited, you can order food, snacks, cocktails (notwithstanding whiskey) and have them delivered to you anywhere on the ship.

After our evening cocktail, it is time to return to our stateroom to finish packing. We are supposed to have our checked luggage out of the room for pick up by 7:00pm tonight.

Tomorrow, we will disembark in Fort Lauderdale for the trip home.
