Day 11 - At Sea Crossing The Atlantic

Day 11 - At Sea Crossing The Atlantic

Ship: Princess Cruises’ Sun Princess
Itinerary: 16-Night Transatlantic - Southampton to Fort Lauderdale

This morning we start the day at sea with trivia with Christian. The questions were pretty tough and we got 14 correct, but the winning team got 22 correct. Oh well.

Trivia

When we walk back to the Piazza, we can see there is an art activity going on. There is always something going on in The Piazza.

Artists take over The Piazza

Later this morning, we are able to find a seat on Deck 8 to watch another Officers vs Guests game show. This time it was a game very similar to Scattagories. Guests won, yet again!

Officers Vs Guests

The photo below, taken 15 minutes before the Officers vs Guests show begins in The Piazza, tells two stories. One, people have become addicted to their electronic devices. And, two, you have to show up so early to these events to get a seat that you need to bring something to read while you wait!

What Does This Photo Tell Us?

This evening, I attend the Captain’s Circle event held in the Dome. This event is held to recognize Platinum and Elite guests for their loyalty to Princess. The Dome was really not well suited for an event like this. Unless you are seated at the end of a row, there is no way for a waiter/ress to get to you with a drink. Also, I was surprised that no canapés were offered.

Captain's Circle

We were greeted by Corinne, the ship’s Cruise Director, then came a presentation by the Future Cruise Sales person. Finally, we were introduced to the Captain who greeted everyone and thanked them for their loyalty to Princess Cruises. One couple on board had 3,379 days on Princess and 440 cruises! They have most days of any Princess guests across the fleet.

Captain Street Welcomes Guests

After the Captain’s Circle, Rickee and I decided to visit Good Spirits Bar, which holds two distinctions: it is one of the few quiet bars where you can enjoy a cocktail without the sound from the Piazza, and it is VERY small. I could only count 38 seats!

I was a little disappointed when the waiter delivered my Crown Royal in a cocktail glass.

For dinner this evening, we decided to try the a la cartè menu at Kai Sushi. The ocean views here are amazing. It is a shame that the noise from the adjacent Piazza is so loud it makes it difficult to even carry on a conversation.

As I mentioned in a previous blog (and video), the a la carté menu is NOT included with the Premier Package, something I think Princess should re-think. Nevertheless, the food was good. I had a Spicy Tuna Roll ($17) and Rickee had a Vegetable Roll ($13).

We also shared an order of Soy-Glazed Chicken ($15). Our total bill was $45 + an 18% service fee. I would have never spent this much on a meal like this were it not for some non-refundable shipboard credit I used to pay for the meal. Nevertheless, the food and service were very good.

After dinner, we walked over to the Piazza to watch the Yes/No Game Show where the contestants have to answer a series of questions for two minutes without saying either Yes or No. It is harder than you might think. Don Terris (Don’s Family Vacations) was there to compete and he was able to win, as were two other guests.

Tomorrow is another day at sea. We have reservations for dinner at Crown Grill.
