Day At Sea

This morning SH Vega is steaming toward Greenland and after a very quick breakfast, we head to Observation Lounge for a mandatory Zodiac Safety Briefing with Expedition Leader, Nicki.

After the Zodiac Briefing, the guests are divided into groups by color (we are in the Blue group). One by one, each group of guests head to Base Camp on Deck 3 where we are fitted with Muck boots. These are provided to all guests on a complimentary basis. However, the boots stay on the ship at the end of the cruise.

We opt for a light lunch today in Club Lounge on Deck 7.

At Club Lounge, guests can also order from a menu of items prepared at the Pool Grill.

This afternoon, we are treated to a lecture ‘Beyond the Ice: Unraveling Greenland’s Cultural Tapestry’ by Arielle Montgomery.

At 4:30, we are invited to Observation Lounge for the daily Recap and Briefing by Expedition Leader, Nicki D’Souza.

Daily Briefing and Recap

A special treat this evening is the Captain’s Welcome Reception where we get to meet Captain Lyubomir Garciyanov from Bulgaria.

The Captain then introduced us to members of his senior staff from various departments.

For dinner this evening, we head down to Swan Restaurant on Deck 4. This is the ship’s main dining room for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Breakfast and lunch are served buffet style, while dinner has full menu table service.

I ordered the Chicken Karrage, a Japanese fried chicken dish that was served with lemongrass rice. It was very good.

After dinner, guests can return to the Observation Lounge for piano entertainment with Rene.

Tomorrow, SH Vega will be anchored off the coast of Greenland and we will take Zodiacs to the small village of Ittoqqortoormitt. Try saying that three times fast!
