Day 0 - Flight to Tokyo

Rickee settles into her Business Class suite on JAL

Before we left for Japan, we shipped our checked luggage using Ship&Play to the Four Seasons Tokyo at Otemachi.

Our Blacklane limo arrived right on time for our 8:30am ride to DFW airport.

We checked in 3 hours before our flight, so we had time to visit the Chase Sapphire Lounge at DFW airport. This is the nicest airport lounge we have ever visited and it now is at the top of our list.

Our first visit to Chase Sapphire Lounge

I ordered the eggs and bacon from the menu. Although the eggs were cold, the bacon was amazing. There was also an extensive buffet.

Eggs were cold, but bacon was great

As JAL Business Class passengers, we also had the opportunity to check out the AA Flagship Lounge.

The Flagship Lounge was a bit of a disappointment. Everything was self-serve, including the liquor! Food quality resembled that of the Admirals Club. The only advantage was that the lounge was practically empty.

The champagne at Flagship was not as good as the champagne at Chase Sapphire or Admiral’s Club.

Boarding on our flight to Haneda was delayed about 40 minutes. The JAL Business Class Suite is large and well equipped with lots of storage. However, the seat was very uncomfortable with very little cushioning.

The suite offers lots of power options and seat controls and everything worked.

Before meal service, we are offered drinks, nuts and some sort of cheese dip.

The starter course consisted of 6 different items and only one of them did I find to be any good. The beef filet main course had an odd artificial flavor and was tough. I have no idea what the side items were. The dessert was a mango fluff and it tasted okay.

I also enjoyed the cheese plate that was offered.

The IFE had very few good movie choices, but it did have Bluetooth connectivity for my headphones, which was nice. WiFi was free but slow and unrealiable.

The F/A made up my bed for me with a mattress pad, duvet and pillow. The mattress pad was not that comfortable and the pillow was way too soft for me. There was plenty of legroom to stretch out, but my shoulders kept hitting hard parts of the suite walls. I could not sleep.

The meal we were served before landing was a real mystery. I think part of it was French Toast, but I have no idea what the rest of it was. I found it to be mostly inedible.

Pre-Landing meal

We landed in Tokyo about 45 minutes late, but overall, the flight was good. It was definitely not worth the price and we would not fly JAL Business Class again.
