Day Three - Porto Mahon, Spain

June 6 - Today, Crystal Symphony is docked in Porto Mahon, Menorca, Spain. In 147 cruises, we have never visited Porto Mahon! So, for our first visit, our plan was to explore the town on our own and search for the elusive refrigerator magnet to add to our collection. But, first, we have some business to attend to.

Crystal arranged for us to have a private interview with Geoffrey Kent, Founder and Chairman Emeritus of Abercrombie & Kent. Mr. Kent is onboard Crystal Symphony this week for Crystal’s 35th Anniversary Celebration and we were very grateful to have an opportunity to shoot a video interview with him. Mr. Kent pioneered luxury experiential travel to exotic destinations, beginning in Africa in 1962. Today, Abercrombie & Kent is the world leader in luxury travel.

After our interview with Geoffrey Kent, we head to The Marketplace for lunch before disembarking Crystal Symphony in Porto Mahon.

One of the great things about visiting Porto Mahon is that you disembark in the middle of town. There’s no need to tender or to take a shuttle bus.

Before we exit the cruise terminal, one of the security people pointed out the easiest way to get to the center of the Old City. Rather than walking up a steep walkway (the town is elevated from the shoreline), he pointed us to an elevator that the city has provided for visitors. As we walk down the street toward the lift, we can see Crystal Symphony docked in Porto Mahon.

Just a couple of blocks from the ship, we found a staircase leading up to the elevator/lift.

After exiting the lift, we find streets lined with shops, sidewalk cafés and Interesting buildings.

After about two hours of shopping and exploring, we are back onboard Crystal Symphony in time for another excellent Afternoon Tea in Palm Court.

For dinner this evening, we decide to try Beefbar, one of the newest venues on Crystal Symphony.

I ordered the NYC Strip and Rickee ordered the Steak Frites which is a small tenderloin served with truffle French fries. The filet is the better cut of meat, in my opinion. We will be going back to Beefbar.

After dinner, we had time to enjoy some of the lively 8:30pm show, Rock ‘n Pop in Starlight Lounge on Deck 6.

At 9:30, we were treated to the standup comedy of Mark Palmer in the Galaxy Showroom.

Tomorrow, Crystal Symphony guests will enjoy a relaxing day at sea.
