"Princess' culinary offerings embody a rich Italian heritage, uniting a shared passion for family recipes, vibrant social dining, and a love of celebrating each day of life," expressed Cecchini. "My life as an artesian butcher holds deep significance because I hold profound respect for the gift of the animal and ensure that shines through when guests enjoy my new restaurant and delectable menus sailing the world on the beautiful Sun Princess."

Koper Creates First-Ever Gourmet Festival to Celebrate the Arrival of Azamara’s Four-Ship Fleet

A year after the first ever meeting of Azamara’s sister ships, the fleet comes together again to connect guests with the destination of Koper and its local community

MIAMI, October 6, 2023: Azamara, the small-ship cruise line renowned for Destination Immersion® experiences and Extended Destination Days, brought its four ships together again on October 5 in Koper, Slovenia. In celebration of the fleet’s arrival, Azamara guests were welcomed by the city of Koper with its first-ever Gourmet Festival to highlight the city’s culinary experiences and connect with the local community.

“It’s such a unique moment to have our four ships meet once again and host all of our guests at a specially curated event where they can experience local gastronomy while meeting new people from this wonderful country,” said Mike Pawlus, Head of Itinerary Planning at Azamara. “Our local tour operator, Atlas Express, who we honored as an AzAmazing Partner in 2023, has done a phenomenal job bringing the destination to life for our guests. We’re thankful to the Municipality of Koper, the Slovenian Tourism Board, the Port of Koper, and Visit Koper for all their support in making this happen.”

Guests from each of the four ships – Azamara Journey®, Azamara Quest®, Azamara Pursuit®, and the fleet’s latest ship, Azamara Onward® – were given complimentary tickets to enjoy the Gourmet Festival’s local cuisine, wines, and entertainment. The Vice Mayor of Koper, Mateja Hrvatin Kozlovic, presented the four captains with a plaque to commemorate this occasion and celebrate the collaboration between Azamara and local partners and officials.

Azamara’s Extended Destination Days offered the opportunity for guests onboard Azamara Journey and Azamara Pursuit to enjoy a late night in port to discover the destination’s undiscovered haunts and hotspots, while guests onboard Azamara Quest experienced an immersive AzAmazing Evening in Tito Square following the event.

THE 1,800-PIECE ART COLLECTION ABOARD SILVER NOVA® SPARKS CURIOSITY AND CHAMPIONS DISCOVERY

Silver Nova’s art collection includes almost 1,800 artworks by 59 artists from 25 countries and takes guests on a visual journey

(Miami, FL – October 5, 2023) Comprising approximately 1,800 pieces by 59 artists from 25 countries, the art collection of Silver Nova® is the largest of any ship in the history of Silversea®, meticulously curated to illuminate a new way of sensing, being, and discovering. Taking guests on a visual journey that sparks curiosity and stimulates their desire for exploration, the art program brings together an international collection of works — most of which were commissioned for specific locations aboard Silver Nova to complement the ship’s many architectural innovations.

“The entire Silversea experience is tailored to the interests and expectations of our curious guests,” said Barbara Muckermann, President of Silversea. “Much like our immersive and experience-led voyages – which shine a light on our planet’s most remarkable cultures – our art collection on board Silver Nova was curated by experts to take guests on a visual journey of discovery and self-enrichment. With approximately 1,800 pieces by almost 60 artists to admire, this journey is as spectacular as our newest ship’s pioneering architecture.”

ICArt, an international art consultancy that has specialized in creating unique art experiences for over three decades, curated Silver Nova’s art collection with great thoughtfulness, sourcing over 1,250 framed artworks, 9 installations, 8 sculptures, and more – including intriguing and storied antiques, Murano glass vases, and artistic books.

“Art adds dimension, context and meaning to the experience on Silver Nova,” said Mariangela Capuzzo, Chief Creative Officer of ICArt. “It captures guests’ intellect and imagination. Our intention was to create a visual impact that sparks curiosity, both visually and conceptually. Our curatorial direction on Silver Nova shines a light on a new way of sensing, a new way of being, and a new way of discovering. It is about exploring the cultures of the world and exploring destinations.”

Highlights of Silver Nova’s extensive art collection include:

  • THE MESSINA COLLECTION: 38 BRONZE SCULPTURES

The Messina collection comprises 38 bronze sculptures by famed Italian sculptor Francesco Messina, in the classic 20th century Novecento style. Silversea acquired the collection in 2006 and 14 important pieces have come together for the first time aboard Silver Nova. One of the collection’s most noteworthy sculptures is the 4.5-foot-tall (1.37m) ‘Scuola di Danza’ — translated as ‘School of Dance’ — which depicts a ballerina who welcomes guests with open arms on deck 2.

  • SUITE CORRIDORS: A DIALOGUE BETWEEN PAST AND PRESENT

The artistic direction for the suite corridors continues the exploration of history, culture, and nature found throughout the staircases. Photography by long-term Silversea ambassador Steve McCurry in key focal points, alongside a myriad of maps from the Theatrum Orbis Terrarum — considered the first true modern atlas — creates a dialogue between past and present, inviting guests on a journey through time. Each suite corridor, from deck 6 to deck 9, focuses on a distinct geographical region: deck 6, Europe; deck 7, Asia; deck 8, Africa; and deck 9, the Americas.

  • OTIVM℠: ROMAN-INSPIRED ARTISTRY

Paying testament to Silversea’s Otium wellness program, which enhances the onboard experience for guests, Roman-inspired artworks decorate the Otium Spa and the two Otium suites (five pieces in each suite) aboard Silver Nova. Venus Fragmentée #2, for example – a Romanesque bust in plaster, by artist Marina Mankarios – sits on a plinth at the entrance to the Otium Spa. In Roman culture, Otium — the opposite of negotium, the nonexistence of pleasure — was an indulgent period of time dedicated to leisure, in which people bathed, conversed, theorized, drank, ate, and relaxed.

  • THE LIBRARY: A DREAMY LOOK AT THE SEA AND SKY

In the concealed Library on deck 10, Albanian artist Artur Sula has created an arresting mural on the ceiling, inviting visitors to survey the sea and look deep into the constellations of the night’s sky. The work, covering 280 square feet, was hand-painted in place and highlighted using 24K gold leaf.

Christopher Prelog Marks Three Year Milestone as President of Windstar Cruises; Announces 2024 President’s Cruise in Canary Islands

Chris Prelog

MIAMI, FL, September 26, 2023 – This week Windstar Cruises President Christopher Prelog celebrates three years of leading the small ship cruise line – commemorating a remarkable tenure that began in the depths of the pandemic.

From relaunching the fleet’s operations in 2021 to debuting three completely reimagined ships by 2022 (via what is regarded as the most complex refurbishment and expansion project in the industry), along with moving the line’s headquarters from Seattle to cruise-centric Miami, Prelog’s time on the job has been anything but “business as usual.”

After all, Prelog’s background is anything but expected. He began his career on cruise ships as a waiter – transitioning from time onboard to onshore leadership with a style that keenly taps into the realities of what it’s like to be part of a cruise ship crew.

He marks his third year as president with record-breaking sales, an expanded team (many of whom also climbed the Jacobs Ladder from ship’s crew to the boardroom), new destinations  including dozens of just-added cruise tours and air/hotel packages, exciting cultural and environmental partnerships, and a reinvigorated devotion to onboard excellence, as well as the travel advisor community.

“I always look forward to the yearly President’s cruise,” said Prelog. “It’s a chance for me to sail with guests and crew and learn about their Windstar experiences.”

Alongside the anniversary and in celebration of Prelog’s accomplishments, Windstar is pleased to announce a new Windstar President’s Cruise in April 2024 in the Canary Islands, a region where Windstar is greatly expanding operations and offerings kicking off next year. In addition to several new cruises in the Canary Islands in 2024, Windstar will sail there consistently from November 2025 through March 2026.

On the eight-day Captivating Canary Islands President’s Cruise departing April 20 from Las Palmas and sailing to Lisbon, guests get a chance to get to know Prelog personally and spend time with him where he’s most comfortable: at sea.

The enhanced culinary program has diversified menus in all nine dining venues aboard the cruise line’s newest ship and will subsequently roll out across the fleet. To ensure the new menu options meet Silversea’s unwavering culinary standards, the cruise line has collaborated with the illustrious Chef Jean-Luc Rabanel, whose imaginative green cuisine has received great acclaim worldwide. Chef Rabanel stands at the forefront of green gastronomy, having developed a visionary approach to his art, which he refers to as ‘greenstronomy.’ Chef Cornelius spent time honing culinary techniques and learning innovative approaches from Chef Rabanel, before creating the enhanced menu options with Silversea’s culinary team.

Tauck Brings its First-Ever Cruise Guests to Cleveland

98-Year-Old Industry Leader is Latest to Include Port Call in City

WILTON, CT (September 11, 2023) Cleveland’s popularity as a tourism hot spot and cruise ship destination continues to grow, as Connecticut-based Tauck recently brought travelers on its “Cruising the Great Lakes: Chicago to Toronto” itinerary to Cleveland. The port call on Saturday, September 9 marked Tauck’s first-ever visit to the city in its 98-year history.

Tauck is the award-winning leader in upscale guided travel, offering more than 150 land tours, cruises and safaris to 70+ countries and all seven continents. The company’s Great Lakes cruise sails aboard the intimate 430-foot, 184-guest Le Dumont-D’Urville, which is owned and operated by the luxury French cruise line Ponant. Saturday’s visit was the ship’s first-ever stop in Cleveland as well.

VISIT MARKS CLEVELAND’S GROWING POPULARITY WITH CRUISERS

Saturday’s arrival of the Tauck cruise was just the latest milestone in Cleveland’s growing popularity as a cruise ship destination. Earlier this summer the Viking ship Polaris called at the Port of Cleveland on its maiden voyage, and 49 different cruise ships will stop in the city this season, including visits by Pearl Seas Cruises and American Queen Voyages.

The Port of Cleveland is excited to see the growth of cruises through Cleveland. “Tourism is a vital part of our local economy,” said Will Friedman, President & CEO of the Port of Cleveland. “We expect to see even more cruise ships arrive in Cleveland in the next several years, and are happy to work with Tauck to accommodate more visitors.”

Cleveland City Council President Blaine Griffin noted that “Cruising in Cleveland has surged by 700% over the past couple of years, and it’s become an increasingly important driver for our local economy.” According to Cruise the Great Lakes, a regional cruise marketing program, 2023 is set to break records with 800 port visits generating $235 million in economic impact across the Great Lakes and St. Lawrence River waterways. Tauck’s “Cruising the Great Lakes: Chicago to Toronto” itinerary will visit Cleveland ten times in 2023 and 2024.

Tauck CEO Dan Mahar said that Tauck was excited to be adding Cleveland to its cruising portfolio. “Our cruises visit top destinations around the globe, from Antarctica to Venice, Italy to the Galapagos Islands, yet we’re always thrilled to showcase world-class locations closer to home,” said Mahar. “Cleveland has so much to offer, and it’s a fantastic addition to our ‘Cruising the Great Lakes’ itinerary.”

Tauck guests enjoyed a full day in Cleveland, beginning with an exclusive pre-opening visit to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame on Saturday morning. After a pub lunch and beer flight at a local craft brewery, guests took in other sites including Playhouse Square, Edgewater Park and University Circle. Le Dumont-D’Urville sailed that evening for the Welland Canal.

Tauck is somewhat unique in the global cruising industry, as it operates its cruises on chartered ships owned and operated by third-party cruise lines. By entrusting the cruise operations to its partner companies, Tauck is able to focus its energies and leverage its expertise to deliver more enriching and more authentic experiences ashore, via custom-curated excursions operated by its Tauck Director guides and local experts.

Those interested in more information can contact their local travel professional, call Tauck at 800 468 2825, or visit the company’s website at www.tauck.com (www.tauck.ca in Canada, www.tauck.co.uk in the UK, www.tauck.com.au in Australia/New Zealand).
