SILVERSEA CRUISES® AND MEYER WERFT CELEBRATE KEEL LAYING OF SECOND NOVA CLASS SHIP, SILVER RAY℠

(Papenburg – March 24, 2023) Silversea Cruises® and MEYER WERFT celebrated the keel laying of Silver Ray℠ on March 23, hosting select Travel Advisors for a symbolic ceremony at the shipyard in Papenburg, Germany. An age-old shipbuilding tradition, the keel laying marks the start of a ship’s assembly. The second ship in Silversea’s pioneering Nova class, the 728-guest Silver Ray is expected to enter service in summer 2024, joining her sister ship, Silver Nova℠, as one of the most sustainable ships in her class.

Barbara Muckermann, Silversea’s President and CEO, and Jan Meyer, Managing Director of MEYER WERFT, were among the attendees as a commemorative coin, bearing Silver Ray’s silhouette, was placed under a pre-assembled module—weighing 230 tonnes, and measuring approximately 47m by 8m (155ft by 27ft)—as a symbol of good luck. Attendees subsequently raised a glass to celebrate the important milestone.

“We were delighted to welcome select members of our valued trade community to the MEYER WERFT shipyard in Papenburg to witness this milestone in the build of Silver Ray—one of the first times that Travel Advisors have attended the keel laying of an ultra-luxury ship,” said Barbara Muckermann, President and CEO, Silversea Cruises. “Anticipation is building for the introduction of our pioneering Nova class ships, with Silver Nova set to join the fleet this summer. In addition to being two of the most sustainable ultra-luxury cruise ships ever launched, the Nova class ships will introduce an asymmetrical design and a horizontal layout for the first time in our cruise line’s history, as well as all-new public venues that are among the most spacious at sea. Silver Nova and Silver Ray represent important milestones on Royal Caribbean Group’s journey to achieving a net zero newbuild, and I thank the entire team at MEYER WERFT, as well as those involved at Royal Caribbean Group and Silversea, for their invaluable collaboration.”

"The Nova class will set new standards on the way to net zero emissions cruising. We are therefore delighted to take another symbolic step in the construction of Silver Ray today with the keel laying. I am sure that the ultra-luxury ship will be able to meet the high demands of her guests and will inspire them with her innovative design," said Jan Meyer, Managing Director of MEYER WERFT.

Before Silver Ray’s official keel laying ceremony, attending guests were given a tour of Silver Nova, which nears completion at the MEYER WERFT shipyard and is set to join Silversea’s fleet this summer. A first for Silversea, both Nova class ships will incorporate an innovative asymmetrical design and a horizontal layout, with public spaces and suites spanning the entire length of each ship. Silver Nova and Silver Raywill enrich guests’ travels with an unprecedented openness to the destination.

MIAMI –March 23, 2023 – Crystal announced today that it has launched an Exceptional Initiative for all guests financially impacted by Crystal Cruises’ former ownership and their travel advisors. The initiative is being created in partnership with A&K Travel Group, the new owners of Crystal and its two ships Crystal Serenity and Crystal Symphony.

Eligible former Crystal guests who hold a verified claim in the Crystal Cruises LLC case will be able to apply for a credit to use towards future Crystal voyages on board either Crystal Serenity or Crystal Symphony.

“This Initiative is a plan we have been working on since we acquired Crystal as it will benefit our most loyal customers. This is not something we were legally obliged to do,” said Manfredi Lefebvre d’Ovidio, Co-Chairman of A&K Travel Group and of Crystal. “However, we believe that being Exceptional means doing what is unexpected, unusual, and unprecedented. We are choosing to help former guests and travel agents recover their money and hope we will be able to focus on returning to service, the exceptional crew and onboard service that has made Crystal an award-winning cruise line for three decades.”

“What Crystal has decided to do with this gesture is remarkable partly because they had no obligation to do it, but mostly because its gives customers another alternative to recover funds lost in the shut down,” said Mark Healy, Executive Vice President of Moecker Associates. “We are also working to analyze all the claims we received and believe that by the end of the summer we will be in a position to release the first reimbursements.

In order for guests to qualify for the credit, the following conditions apply:

100 YEARS OF CUNARD CAPTURED IN TIME

Cunard Launches 'Sea Views' Exhibition Curated
By British Photographer & Filmmaker Mary McCartney

  • Luxury cruise line Cunard launches new exhibition with world-renowned photographer and filmmaker Mary McCartney who curated 100 years of photographs for a new exhibition.

  • It marks two momentous milestones in Cunard's history – that over 100 years ago Cunard was the first cruise line to introduce onboard photographers and the centennial anniversary of the first ever round the world voyage on Cunard's ship, Laconia.

VALENCIA, Calif., March 22, 2023 /PRNewswire/ -- Luxury cruise line Cunard celebrates a century's worth of luxury, magic, history and memories by launching its new Sea Views Exhibition, carefully curated by British photographer and filmmaker Mary McCartney.

"It was not just about showcasing the history, but also celebrating the millions of travelers who have embarked on unforgettable voyages with Cunard," said Mary McCartney.

The exhibition celebrates two momentous milestones in Cunard's history - the first being that over 100 years ago, Cunard introduced onboard photography to capture the signature moments of their voyages and the second being the centenary of the first ever round the world voyage on Cunard's ship, Laconia. Laconia's 130-day voyage departed on November 21,1922 and arrived back in New York on March 30, 1923 after calling at 22 ports.

Boasting images from Cunard's photography archive together with an incredible number of photos submitted by past and present guests of its iconic cruise liners, the Sea Views Exhibition is a culmination of the century's rich history.

The centennial Sea Views digital exhibition is available to view on www.Cunard.com/seaviews.

Showcasing a selection of never-before-seen imagery featuring everything from Hollywood's most famed to the treasured moments of guests, the snapshots cover the dynamic changes in styles across fashion, food and interior design since the 1920s.

The exhibition features a snapshot of Cunard's most glamorous and esteemed guests, from Elizabeth Taylor and Rita Hayworth to Bing Crosby and Nelson Mandela, illustrating some of Cunard's archival gems across the century.

Hundreds of Cunard passengers from all over the world, including America, Australia, Canada, Germany and the UK, submitted over a thousand of their personal highlights aboard Cunard ships. The images depict a series of fascinating moments from families immigrating to new continents, milestone anniversaries to unexpected guest encounters, telling magical stories from the 1920s to present day.

Barry Robins shared a picture of himself and his sister Lynne Robins aboard the Queen Mary from June of 1964. They were immigrating to the U.S. along with their mother to be reunited with their father. As siblings they had a wonderful time onboard, prior to arriving in New York, and shared a range of fond memories.

Mary McCartney said: "Curating the Sea Views Exhibition for Cunard has been a fulfilling project for me as a photographer and filmmaker. It was a joy to dig deep into the archives and discover never-before-seen photographs that capture the essence of Cunard's signature moments, showcasing the glamour, elegance, and adventures families and friends shared together."

"It was not just about showcasing the history, but also celebrating the millions of travelers who have embarked on unforgettable voyages across the globe. As I went through the archives and read the stories submitted by passengers from all corners of the world, I was struck by the strong sense of community and connection that Cunard has fostered over the years. It was an honor to bring those stories to life through the exhibition," continued Mary.

Other images Mary McCartney selected to be part of this unique photography exhibition include:

  • Troops walking onboard in Sydney, Cunard's Queen Mary (1940). The Queen Mary was deployed during the Second World War to carry troops to Europe

  • Nelson Mandela sailing on the Queen Elizabeth 2's 1998 passage between Durban and Cape Town. In the ship's visitor book, he wrote "Travelling on QE2 was an unforgettable honour and a pleasure"

  • Elizabeth Taylor, who regularly travelled with Cunard and her producer husband Mike Todd

  • Harry Lillis Crosby, known to the world as Bing, was a regular on board the Queen Mary. He was often found in the dark room on board the ship chatting to photographers.

  • The first ever Blue Note Jazz themed Transatlantic Crossing, with President of Blue Note Records Don Was, on Cunard's Queen Mary 2 (2015) (image is not of Don Was). The image was submitted by former guest Nick Pride

  • Sir Winston Churchill operating the controls with cigar in hand, with Commodore J.G.P. Bisset on Cunard's Queen Elizabeth (1940s)

  • Prominent Passengers Phyllis Calvert and husband Peter Murray-Hill, actors, with their daughter, Auriol, facing press photographers on the Queen Mary's boat deck

Carnival Venezia will depart on her 15-day transatlantic Carnival Journeys sailing from Barcelona on May 29, 2023, and is set to begin year-round cruising from New York’s Manhattan Cruise Terminal on June 15, 2023. A wide range of sailing options are available, with 10 different cruise durations and 22 unique itineraries featuring visits to 25 ports across 14 countries. Built in 2019, Carnival Venezia accommodates up to 5,145 guests and 1,393 Carnival crew members.

When guests first board Carnival Venezia, they will be immediately surrounded by Italian architectural design both inside and out. The ship’s beautiful atrium is modeled after Venice’s main public square, the Piazza San Marco, whereas the Lido deck draws inspiration from the Italian Riviera with a retractable roof to allow guests to still enjoy the pool year-round.

The ship will introduce many new food and beverage offerings to the Carnival fleet where guests can indulge in the flavors of Italy, including La Strada Grill with classic Italian street food, a Mexitalian fusion restaurant Tomodoro, a similar-to-Alchemy-Bar Amari, and Frizzante, serving a variety of bubbly drinks, from prosecco to spritzes and bellinis, along with Italian beer, authentic Italian coffees and biscotti.

Carnival Venezia will also feature new Italian-inspired entertainment spaces, such as the Gondola Lounge, designed with the famous Venetian canals in mind, and the Carnevale Bar & Lounge, celebrating the elegance of Venetian masquerades during Carnevale, as well as new activities like the Italian Street Party where Little Italy meets Lido, the Captain’s Venetian Toast, and Italian-inspired youth programming for kids and teens.

The ship will be home to many of the activities and experiences guests enjoy aboard other Carnival ships as well, including Carnival Waterworks, Piano Bar 88, Heroes Tribute Lounge, Fahrenheit 555 Steakhouse, Bonsai Sushi & Teppanyaki, Guy’s Burger Joint, Cloud 9 Salon & Spa, the Serenity Adult-Only Retreat, and Dr. Seuss Bookville.

ENHANCED AND ENRICHED: SILVERSEA® TO INTRODUCE ALL-NEW SUITE CATEGORIES

Silver Endeavour’s enhancements will include 10 new guest suites and additional crew accommodation

(Monaco – March 16, 2023) The leading ultra-luxury and expedition cruise line, Silversea Cruises®, has unveiled details of the upcoming refurbishment planned for Silver Endeavour℠, the world’s most luxurious expedition ship. Following a successful inaugural season in Antarctica, Silversea’s newest expedition ship will enter the San Giorgio del Porto shipyard in Genova, Italy, on April 3, 2023, emerging with an array of enhancements that will evolve the onboard and expedition experiences for guests. Responding to high demand for the ship’s most spacious accommodations, Silversea will craft six new upper suites on deck eight, as well as four new suites on deck five, introducing two new suite categories that will immerse travelers even deeper into the destination.

Silver Endeavour’s refurbishment will strengthen her status as the world’s most luxurious expedition ship,” said Roberto Bruzzone, Silversea’s Senior Vice President of Marine Operations. “With our guests’ cruise experience in mind, we are broadening her range of accommodation options by introducing two new suite categories, enriching a selection of public venues, and creating space for addition crew members to maintain one of the industry’s highest crew-to-guest ratios. Building on the success of her inaugural Antarctic season, Silver Endeavour will welcome travelers in the Arctic from June 2023, offering deeper connections and greater destination reach than ever.”

10 NEW SUITES, INCLUDING SIX UPPER SUITES ACROSS TWO NEW CATEGORIES

Replacing the former helicopter hangar amidships, Silversea will install two Master Suites and four Signature Suites, introducing two new suite categories to increase guests’ accommodation options. Starboard side on deck five, four Classic Veranda Suites will replace the Medical Centre, which will relocate to the space currently occupied by the Casino on deck four.

  • MASTER SUITES

Offering one of the strongest connections with the destination in ultra-luxury expedition cruising, Silver Endeavour’s two new Master Suites, located towards the ship’s aft, will provide uninterrupted, 270-degree views from their 29m2 (312ft2) verandas and large living areas, thanks to panoramic, vaulted glazing. Spacious, at 108m2 (1,163ft2), the two Master suites will feature expansive living and dining areas; perfectly proportioned bedrooms with king-sized or twin beds, and a walk-in closet; and a roomy bathroom with a walk-in shower, and separate whirlpool bath. The living room will include a convertible sofa to accommodate a third guest.

  • SIGNATURE SUITES

Four new Signature Suites, ranging from 67m2 to 78m2 (721ft2-850ft2), will welcome guests in spacious luxury, offering an open living room and dining area; an expansive bedroom with king-sized or twin beds, floor-to-ceiling windows, and a walk-in closet; and an adjoining bathroom, complete with a generously sized walk-in shower, and whirlpool bath. The living room will include a convertible sofa to accommodate a third guest, as well as floor-to-ceiling glass doors offering far-reaching views. Spacious verandas of between 16m2 and 25m2 (167ft2-269ft2) will provide ideal spots from which guests can relax and admire the destination.

  • CLASSIC VERANDA SUITES

Four Classic Veranda Suites will be installed on the ship’s starboard side on deck four, maintaining the traditional layout, features, and amenities of Silversea’s existing Veranda Suites. Each of the 33m2 (356ft2) suites will include a veranda of 5m2 (52ft2) and will welcome guests in the cruise line’s trademark level of comfort

Moreover, the removal of the Casino on deck four will create space for four new crew cabins, which will host seven additional crew members to maintain Silversea’s unparalleled service standards and expedition experience. As well as bolstering the ship’s hotel team, the extra cabins will enlarge the ship’s expedition team to 22—offering guests greater access to more specialists for a deeper immersion into the destination.

Upcoming enhancements will also include the installation of handcrafted Lalique crystal panels in La Dame®—Silversea’s signature French restaurant, which offers guests one of the most elegant fine dining experiences at sea.

SILVER ENDEAVOUR: TAKING GUESTS DEEPER INTO POLAR REGIONS

Silver Endeavour’s inaugural season in Antarctica included numerous highlights that demonstrate her advanced expedition capabilities. On November 24, for example, Silver Endeavourbecame the season’s first cruise ship to cross the Antarctic Circle, journeying as far south as Marguerite Bay. Other highlights from her inaugural season include the first-ever naming ceremony in the spectacular Lemaire Channel; the Antarctica premiere of long-term Silversea collaborator Steve McCurry’s biopic, McCurry: The Pursuit of Color; and the meeting of three Silversea ships in the White Continent in December – Silver EndeavourSilver Wind®, and Silver Cloud®.

Following Silver Endeavour’s refurbishment in Genova, she will undertake two voyages in the British Isles and Iceland, before embarking upon her inaugural Arctic season from June 3, with nine voyages set to include many of the Polar Region’s most remote destinations, including Pond Inlet, Cape York, and Qaanaaq, among others.

Windstar Cruises Announces New Whole-Food, Plant-Based Menu in Partnership with the National Health Association

What Started as a Special Offering for Groups and Charters Has Morphed into a Fleet-Wide Initiative Beginning June 2023

MIAMI, FL, March 14, 2023 -- Windstar Cruises has partnered with the National Health Association (NHA) to create a new vegan menu on board all six of the small ship line’s yachts. The offerings are not only plant-based but also prepared without added salt, oil, and sugar and are gluten-free.

Windstar has begun training its culinary team on the new menu and plans to roll out the program fleetwide in June. Vegetarian options, as well as the line’s existing omnivore menu items, will continue to be served as usual.

“The National Health Association points out that vegetarian and vegan diets are not always healthy, and for meals to be truly health-promoting, they also need to be minimally processed and prepared,” explains Windstar’s Director of Hotel Operations Peter Tobler, who oversees food and beverage operations. “We’ve seen an increased demand for whole-food, plant-based dishes from our customers, and we’re really excited to work with the NHA to bring them something that’s nutritious and delicious. As a side benefit, plant-based foods also reduce our environmental footprint – a major goal of Windstar’s – allowing us to tread more lightly on this planet.”

Sample dishes from the new menu include:

- Daily Smoothies at Breakfast

- Roasted Butternut Squash Velouté with Baked Pumpkin Seeds

- Baked Cauliflower Croquettes with Salsa Verde and Sautéed Spinach

- Penne Rigate Pasta, with Crisp Vegetables and Espelette Pepper Sauce

- Veggie Enchiladas with Black Bean & Cilantro Sauce

- Chia Seed Truffles with Dates & Coconut Sauce

- Tahini Brownies with Fresh Strawberries

Wanda Huberman, executive director of the National Health Association, worked closely with the Windstar culinary team to share NHA expertise and discuss Windstar-developed recipes that meet the organization’s standards for an exclusive whole-plant food diet and lifestyle.

“The Windstar culinary team has knocked it out of the park in executing the specific requirements of our meals,” Huberman says. “Every meal is absolutely delicious and served in a beautiful presentation with so much variety that no one will leave a meal feeling hungry or less than satisfied.”

The menu evolved out of hosting several plant-based groups, which have grown significantly in popularity since the start of the pandemic. Lisa McCarl, a former open heart recovery nurse turned travel advisor, has booked several plant-based groups on Windstar and says there is a huge demand for healthy travel options.

“More people are changing the way they eat to prevent and reverse diet-related disease. Why not make it easy for them to continue that healthy lifestyle while sailing on the trip of a lifetime? Windstar is doing a phenomenal job in making healthy cruising a reality.”
