CARNIVAL CRUISE LINE ANNOUNCES NEXT ROUND OF RESTART PLANS

Protocols for Vaccinations, Testing & Masks to Remain in Place Through End of Year

 MIAMI, Sept. 2, 2021 – With eight of its ships already in guest operations, and more restarting in September and October, Carnival Cruise Line today announced the next round of details about additional ship restarts for November 2021 and beyond.

  • Carnival Valor will follow Carnival Glory in New Orleans with four- and five-night sailings starting on Nov. 1;

  • Carnival Legend will restart Nov. 14 out of Baltimore, replacing Carnival Pride, which restarts guest operations from Baltimore Sept. 12 and then moves its homeport to Tampa following a Panama Canal repositioning cruise;

  • Carnival Radiance will have a new maiden voyage date of Dec. 13 out of Long Beach (rescheduled from Nov. 5 due to a revised dry dock transformation plan);

  • Carnival Pride’s new service from Tampa is scheduled to start on Nov. 14;

  • Carnival Conquest’s restart from Miami on Oct. 8 has been rescheduled to Dec. 13;

  • Carnival Sensation’s Oct. 21 restart from Mobile has been moved to Jan. 2022.

“We are very pleased with the progress of our restart which will grow to 15 ships sailing from seven U.S. homeports by mid-November,” said Christine Duffy, president of Carnival Cruise Line.  “We are making slight adjustments to our timeline to take into account supply chain realities and ensure that our destination and shore excursion offerings can meet the strong demand we are seeing from our guests. Our teams, ship and shore, are prepared to continue delivering on our great guest experience and manage all health and safety protocols.”

Carnival is also advising guests booked in November and December that it will continue to meet the U.S. Centers for Disease Control & Prevention’s (CDC) standard of vaccinated cruises and that guests will need to present proof of both vaccination and a negative COVID-19 test at check-in (with a small number of capacity-restricted exemptions granted for children under 12 and other guests who cannot be vaccinated).  Carnival is working to set up mobile pre-cruise rapid testing sites at all of its homeports as a back-up alternative for vaccinated guests who aren’t able to make arrangements (details forthcoming).  In addition, guests will be asked to wear masks in most indoor venues of the ship where people congregate.  Full details are available at the Have Fun. Be Safe. page on Carnival.com.

With the extension of Carnival Sensation’s restart, five ships operating out of U.S. homeports will be moved to 2022:  Carnival Liberty (Port Canaveral), Carnival Sunshine (Charleston), Carnival Paradise (Tampa); Carnival Ecstasy (Jacksonville) and Carnival Sensation (Mobile).

Separate from its U.S. operations, Carnival has cancelled four additional sailings for both Carnival Spirit and Carnival Splendor out of Australia.  Cruises on both ships are now cancelled up to and including Dec. 16, 2021.

Hurtigruten Expeditions marks 125 years of exploring by naming battery hybrid powered MS Fridtjof Nansen on Svalbard

In 1896, Hurtigruten Expeditions founded expedition cruising. 125 years later, what has grown to become the world’s leading and largest expedition cruise line is naming its battery-hybrid powered MS Fridtjof Nansen in the birthplace of expedition cruising – on the Arctic Archipelago of Svalbard.

Battery hybrid powered MS Fridtjof Nansen is the latest addition to Hurtigruten Expeditions' fleet of smaller, more sustainable ships. Packed with groundbreaking green technology, the next generation expedition cruise ship is designed for exploring some of the most spectacular destinations of our planet, building on Hurtigruten Expeditions’ more than 125 years of experience

Past and present exploration heritage is set to come alive, as Hurtigruten Expeditions’ will host MS Fridtjof Nansen’s naming ceremony in Longyearbyen on Svalbard September 14 – in the northernmost naming ceremony ever to be held for a passenger ship.

“When looking for a location for the naming of MS Fridtjof Nansen, we couldn’t think of a better place than Svalbard. For expedition cruising, this is where it all began”, said Hurtigruten Expeditions CEO Asta Lassesen.

The birth of expedition cruising

In the late 1800s, exploration of remote corners of the world was largely done by scientific expeditions, or was a luxury reserved for the few. As yachts and ocean liners made their way north, Hurtigruten Group founder Richard With saw a niche for combining local knowledge with smaller passenger ships. In 1896, what today is Hurtigruten Expeditions started a series of small-ship cruises from mainland Norway to the Arctic archipelago of Svalbard. Aimed at international guests, the cruises included small-boat landings in places like North Cape and the remote Bear Island.

As the first small-ship company to offer a series of cruises to the Arctic Islands, Captain With not only embarked on the adventure that lead to Hurtigruten Expeditions. He effectively founded modern-day expedition cruising.

Much more than a destination

“For us, Svalbard and Spitsbergen is much more than just a destination; it’s a part of our history. As history has told us, we need to work closely with local communities when we develop sustainable tourism for future generations of explorers. When we embark on our Svalbard expeditions, we combine our 125 years of experience with our year-round land-based presence, creating jobs and value for the local community that lasts way beyond our cruise calls”, said Lassesen.

To further mark commitments and long-lasting relationship with the Svalbard community, Hurtigruten Expeditions has chosen Longyearbyen to be MS Fridtjof Nansen’s port of registry – making her the first cruise ship to proudly call the spectacular archipelago of Svalbard her home.

In the wake of exploration

Hurtigruten Expeditions’ newest vessel is named after one of greatest polar heroes and humanitarians of all times, Fridtjof Nansen (1861-1930). Norwegian-born Nansen led the first expedition to ski across Greenland in 1888 and ventured further north than anyone else in history of exploration during his Fram expedition in 1893-1896. Nansen later devoted his life to international humanitarian work and diplomacy, and was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for his work for refugees following World War 1 and related conflicts.

“By naming this groundbreaking expedition ship after Fridtjof Nansen, on Svalbard, we wish to pay tribute to him by virtue of his achievements both as an explorer and a humanitarian. At the same time, we aim to honor the importance of Svalbard in Arctic exploration and tourism, not only in the past, but today”, said Lassesen.

“MS Fridtjof Nansen is the epitome of more than 125 years of exploration heritage. Her small size combined with strengthened hull and green technology, makes her able to explore waters where few other ships can go. Hosting scientists on every cruise, and featuring the on board Nansen Science Center as the beating heart of the ship, guests, scientists and crew will together create a deeper understanding of the areas we explore”, said Lassesen.

MS Fridtjof Nansen will be named by breaking a chunk of ice rather than the traditional bottle of Champagne, just as sister ship MS Roald Amundsen was when she in 2019 was the first ship ever to be named in Antarctica.

The naming ceremony is set to take place on September 14, and will be live streamed.

Hurtigruten Expeditions adds Russia as its latest cruise destination

lpmvkquyurf8duqw0zoo.jpg

The world leader in exploration travel will launch expedition cruises to Russia’s White Sea – combined with exploration of Murmansk, the UNESCO-listed Solovetsky Islands, and Norway’s North Cape

The world’s leading expedition cruise line, Hurtigruten Expeditions, is adding another new region to its ever-growing list of destinations: Russia, and particularly the White Sea in Russia’s far north. This unique itinerary follows the recent additions of expedition cruises to the Galapagos Islands, the Bissagos Islands and Cape Verde in Western Africa, and the Canary Islands and Madeira Islands, which will all launch in 2022.

“After a very challenging year for the entire travel industry, we are thrilled to finally return to cruising. 2022 is set to be our most exciting year ever, introducing a number of new exciting itineraries in three different continents. We see a huge pent-up demand for adventure travel, and much more to come still,” said Hurtigruten Expeditions CEO Asta Lassesen.

Hurtigruten Expeditions founded expedition cruising in 1896, and did the first expedition cruises the Russian Arctic more than 100 years ago.

Hurtigruten Expeditions’ new 17-day Expedition Cruise to the White Sea – Norway and Russia Adventure itinerary will depart Bergen, Norway, on October 6, 2022, and sail north along the Norwegian coast and include several of the country’s highlights: stunning fjords, the mesmerizing Lofoten Islands, visiting settlements rich in fishing traditions and Sami history, and the North Cape, the northernmost point of the European mainland.

Then follows seven days in Russia, traveling to one of the least visited parts of the country. The itinerary combines modern-day Russian cities and historic ports with expedition landings, coming ashore at rarely visited and isolated villages on the shores of the White Sea. The trip also includes visiting the fascinating Solovetsky Islands, one of Northern Russia’s iconic sights. As always, Hurtigruten Expeditions’ onboard expert team will give guests an insight into the history and culture of the places they visit.

"Another dream destination"

“Russia’s White Sea is another dream destination our patrons have asked for when surveying our previous guests, just like the Galapagos and Western Africa. Finally, guests will now be able to go to Russia’s best-kept secret, the White Sea, which very few travelers ever get to experience. And considering we carried out our first expedition cruise to Russia more than 100 years ago, we’re extremely excited to have Russia as a destination again finally,” said Lassesen.

Among the many highlights of this new itinerary, guests will be able to soak up Russian culture and history in two of its most northern cities. They will see old Soviet-era monuments and learn about the wartime and maritime past in Murmansk before taking in the beautifully preserved architecture of Arkhangelsk, the cultural and historical capital of Russia’s north.

ITINERARY: The new 17-day cruise includes the highlights of the Norwegian coastline and Russia's White Sea region.

Guests will explore Norway and Russia on board the popular MS Spitsbergen, which was named Best small cruise ship in Cruise Critic Cruisers’ Choice awards 2018. With only 180 guests on board, she provides a uniquely intimate and exclusive setting onboard. MS Spitsbergen also features a variety of expedition equipment, as we all as Hurtigruten Expedition’s signature state-of-the-art Science Center. The industry-leading Science Program includes a wide range of Citizen Science research projects that guests are encouraged to participate in during their trip.

Besides the new itinerary for Russia’s White Sea, MS Spitsbergen will also offer a 23-day Grand Expedition cruise from Tromsø, Norway, to Lisbon, Portugal. The journey can be cut to a smaller trip departing from Hamburg, Germany, Amsterdam, the Netherlands, or Dover, the United Kingdom, to Lisbon. The ship then continues to serve Western Africa’s waters from November of 2022 to March of 2023. It will operate sailings to the Canary Islands and Madeira Islands, and the Bissagos Islands and Cape Verde from Dakar, Senegal.

MSC CRUISES HERALDS ONE YEAR BACK AT SEA

August 16th marks the line’s 12-month anniversary of safe return to cruise operations

First major cruise brand to resume international sailings one year ago

Undiminished focus on environmental sustainability and sustainable growth

Geneva, Switzerland (August 16, 2021) - MSC Cruises today commemorated being back at sea for twelve months following the global industry’s shutdown in March 2020 as a result of the global pandemic.

One year ago, MSC Cruises on this day became the first major cruise brand to resume operations for international sailings when MSC Grandiosadeparted Genoa for a seven-night voyage in the West Mediterranean.

This re-start was down to a range of local, regional and national authorities in Europe sanctioning a Health and Safety protocol that MSC Cruises had developed with an external panel of medical and public health experts designed for the wellbeing of guests, crew and communities that the Company’s ships would call. A protocol that, eventually, set the standard for the industry and paved the way for more lines to restart.

Twelve months on and more than half of the line’s fleet is safely back at sea – sailing around the UK, both the Mediterranean Sea and Baltic Sea in Europe, North America and the Caribbean and the Red Sea in the Middle East. More ships are scheduled to resume operations in the coming weeks and months as part of the line’s phased plan for returning the full fleet to operations by next year.

Remarkably, MSC Cruises has forged ahead with its determined ambition for sustainable growth as it simultaneously returned ships to water.

For the line, the past twelve months were a very busy year of return to service but it retained an undiminished laser-focus on the long-term future of the business and in a sustainable manner. Below are some highlights from the past year at MSC Cruises.

SEATTLE, WA, August 16, 2021 – U.S. headquartered small ship cruise line Windstar Cruises has renewed and strengthened its relationship as the Official Cruise Line of the James Beard Foundation. The nonprofit organization’s mission is to celebrate, support, and elevate the people behind America’s food culture and champion a standard of good food anchored in talent, equity, and sustainability, aligning with the small ship cruise line’s commitment to fresh and local epicurean experiences around the world.

Windstar Cruises and the James Beard Foundation have partnered in some capacity for the past five years. The new partnership extends until 2025 and includes three themed cruises per year hosted by a James Beard Foundation-affiliated chef beginning in 2022 (dates and chefs to be announced soon).

The themed cruises will include chef demonstrations, as well as a hosted four-course dinner. Each of the themed cruise chefs will provide recipes for the sailing, which will also be featured on Windstar’s menus across the fleet and sailing regions. The partnership includes a variety of events and cross-marketing promotions, plus sponsorship status for the James Beard Awards in 2021.

“The long-term partnership is a result of past successes of the unique travel-culinary program, which hand-picks acclaimed culinary experts to share their knowledge of cuisines of the world with travelers, and showcases exclusive recipes on sailings across Windstar’s fleet of six elegant yachts,” further explains Windstar President Christopher Prelog.

“After so much time eating in our homes, we’re excited to travel and taste the best the world has to offer again. We are thrilled to continue our partnership with Windstar allowing us to pair James Beard Foundation-affiliated chefs with sailings to some of the world’s most delectable destinations,” says Kris Moon, President and COO of James Beard Foundation.

Windstar Cruises is returning to operations in a phased manner, requiring vaccinated guests + crew among a host of health and safety precautions. Four of the line’s six yacht fleet are now back in the water cruising.

NORWEGIAN PRIMA MARKS FLOAT OUT

Prima01.jpg

MIAMI (Aug. 13, 2021) - Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL), the innovator in global cruise travel with a 54-year history of breaking boundaries, today announced that its game-changing new ship, Norwegian Prima was floated out from her drydock at Fincantieri shipyard in Marghera (Venice), Italy, marking a major construction milestone and the first time the new vessel touches water.

To celebrate the occasion, a commemorative coin was welded to Norwegian Prima in a traditional maritime ceremony presided over by Eamonn Ferrin, vice president of international business of Norwegian Cruise Line and Antonio Quintano, shipyard director of Fincantieri.

The float out signifies the completion of external works and painting to Norwegian Prima, including the striking hull artwork designed by Italian graffiti artist Manuel Di Rita, known commonly as "Peeta." Work now continues on Norwegian Prima's interior fittings and guest accommodations, before she is officially delivered to the Cruise Line and commences sailing in summer 2022.

"A ship's float out is always a significant milestone, but this one is particularly special," said Harry Sommer, president and chief executive officer of Norwegian Cruise Line. "Our 18th ship, Norwegian Prima represents an exciting new chapter for our Brand and the first vessel to be delivered in our groundbreaking new Prima Class. We've worked closely with our partners at Fincantieri to deliver a truly remarkable vessel. Their passion, skill and craftsmanship has brought to life one of the most stylish and innovative ships to ever set sail. I'm thrilled we're now one step closer to welcoming our guests onboard in just 12 months' time," Sommer concluded.

Prima02.jpg

"The float out of Norwegian Prima signifies a renewed confidence in cruise and a new era for shipbuilding," said Luigi Matarazzo, general manager of the merchant ships division of Fincantieri. "We are glad to celebrate not only many months of hard work, but also the true spirit of collaboration between our brands – a partnership that will lead the way for a pioneering class of ships in NCL’s Prima Class."

Norwegian Prima is the first of six ships in NCL’s highly anticipated Prima Class, the Brand’s first new class of vessels in nearly 10 years. At 965 feet long, 142,500 gross tons and with capacity for 3,215 guests at double occupancy, the vessel is designed to put guests first. Norwegian Prima boasts wide-open spaces, thoughtful and stunning design, and a variety of new experiences for the Brand.

Laying claim to the title of the most spacious new cruise ship in the premium and contemporary categories, Norwegian Prima offers the most outdoor deck space and the most expansive accommodations of any new build. She boasts multiple Company firsts, including Ocean Boulevard, wrapping around the entire deck over 44,000 square feet, allowing guests to connect to the ocean while enjoying alfresco dining and unique experiences such as Infinity Beach, where two stunning infinity pools are positioned to take in the vastness of the ocean with uninterrupted views, and Oceanwalk, where two glass bridges will make guests feel as though they are walking on air over the water.

Dining is elevated on Norwegian Prima with the addition of Indulge Food Hall, the Brand’s first upscale open-air marketplace offering diverse menu items from a variety of eleven different culinary venues. In addition, Ocean Boulevard hosts three restaurants; Onda by Scarpetta, Los Lobos and The Local Bar & Grill.

Meanwhile The Haven by Norwegian® on Norwegian Prima offers the Brand’s most exclusive and centralized ‘ship-within-a-ship’ suite complex. Spanning eight decks of suites and public areas, it is accessible via private elevators and located at the aft of the ship for the very first time.

Designed to be more open to the sea than ever before, every public area in The Haven will offer spectacular views, together with a stunning new infinity pool overlooking the ship's wake and a new outdoor spa with a glass-walled sauna and cold room.

Commencing summer 2022, Norwegian Prima will offer bucket-list itineraries in Northern Europe with voyages from Amsterdam, Netherlands, and Copenhagen, Denmark giving guests the opportunity to explore the stunning Norwegian Fjords and Baltic Sea. She will then sail a 12-day transatlantic voyage from Southampton to New York via Scotland’s Shetland Islands, Halifax in Nova Scotia and an extended overnight stay in Reykjavik, Iceland. Through the fall and winter, Norwegian Prima will offer a variety of port-richBermuda and Caribbean cruises from New York; Galveston, Texas; Miami and Orlando (Port Canaveral), Fla., including calls to Harvest Caye, the Company’s private resort destination in Belize as well as the Company’s private island, Great Stirrup Cay, in the Bahamas.

This signature dining experience has always offered a bevy of delicious Continental dishes, and now a fresh and new array of options brings even more exciting possibilities. Each course stands as the very definition of time-honored favorites, most notably the beef dishes, all of which are 28-day dry aged certified Black Angus USDA Prime, while succulent seafood dishes such as grilled swordfish and whole Maine lobster gratinée are also classics in their own right.

Toscana presents an evolution of Tuscan cuisine in a truly Italian setting of rich Chianina leather, hand-blown Venetian glass and Carrara marble. Evolved from generational family traditions, many of our recipes originated with the mothers and grandmothers of our own Italian culinary staff. Presented on elegant, custom-designed Versace china, masterfully prepared dishes exemplify the essence of Tuscany and celebrate Italy’s culinary passion. Perhaps the evening begins with the octopus carpaccio with Champagne vinaigrette or the artichoke and parmesan cheese timbale with black truffle sauce, followed by classic dishes such as the hand-rolled gnocchi with pesto, a rich risotto with lobster medallions and shallots, or a pan-seared sea bass filet finished with Sorrento lemon, chardonnay and capers.

Red Ginger radiates harmony and tranquility while evoking the boldness and subtleties of the extraordinary Pan-Asian dishes our talented chefs have created. Much like the room itself, the Thai, Korean, Japanese and Malaysian rooted specialties are a mélange of spicy and soothing, savory and sweet to please virtually every palate. Begin with a salad of spicy roast duck and watermelon with cashews, mint and Thai basil. Savor a Malaysian beef penang with coconut rice and paratha roti. Or try Thai vegetable curry with sweet potatoes, aubergine, mushrooms and basil in green curry sauce. In Red Ginger, the gustatory pleasures are as striking as the visual ones.

There is always room for dessert and the selection here is too good to pass up. Try a homemade sorbet, a made-to-order hot fudge sundae or a thick, hand-dipped milkshake.

Here, guests may not only partake in lively hands-on instruction – they may also indulge the pleasures of the palate in the new oceanview Culinary Center Dining Room with private group dinners or one of our many exclusive and highly acclaimed food and wine pairing experiences.
