SILVERSEA OFFICIALLY NAMES SILVER RAY IN LISBON, CELEBRATES 30 YEARS AS A PIONEER IN ULTRA-LUXURY AND EXPEDITION TRAVEL
Silver Ray’s Godmother, Dr. María Josefina Olascoaga, named the second ultra-luxury ship in the Nova Class — one of Silversea's most energy efficient and spacious ship classes.
(LISBON – June 12, 2024) Today, Silversea officially named Silver Ray, the second ship in its innovative Nova Class. This continues a banner year for the brand, celebrating its 30th anniversary, marking three decades as a pioneer and leader in ultra-luxury and expedition cruise travel.
Watch a video of the naming ceremony
At the ceremony, Jason Liberty, president and CEO, Royal Caribbean Group, and Bert Hernandez, celebrating his first naming as Silversea’s president, addressed esteemed guests. Dr. Josefina Olascoaga, ocean scientist and the ship’s godmother, and Alessandro Zanello, the ship’s captain, officially named the ship followed by a ceremonial champagne bottle break on the ship’s hull, a longstanding maritime tradition. The celebration included a bagpipe performance — Royal Caribbean Group’s customary tradition — alongside live dance performances, and renditions of the U.S. and Portuguese national anthems.
“Welcoming Silver Ray to our global fleet represents that latest commitment from Royal Caribbean Group to continue building the Silversea brand and delivering the very best experiences in ultra-luxury and expedition travel,” said Jason Liberty, president and CEO, Royal Caribbean Group.
“It is fitting that we are celebrating Silver Ray's naming in the same year that Silversea celebrates 30 years of excellence, connecting our past with our future as we continue to lead in luxury travel and industry innovation,” said Bert Hernandez, president, Silversea. “I am incredibly grateful to all involved, most notably to Captain Zanello and his crew who will bring this ship to life, and I proudly welcome Dr. María Josefina Olascoaga to the family as Silver Ray’s Godmother."
SILVER RAY’S GODMOTHER: DR. MARÍA JOSEFINA OLASCOAGA
Silversea announced Dr. María Josefina Olascoaga as the Godmother of Silver Ray, a longstanding maritime tradition and a lifelong title. An ocean scientist and Professor of Ocean Science at University of Miami’s Rosenstiel School of Marine, Atmospheric, and Earth Science, Dr. Olascoaga also co-leads OceanScope, a unique public, private and academic program, that equips Royal Caribbean Group ships with oceanographic instruments to collect the ocean’s vital signs. Dr. Olascoaga’s research and experience in studying ocean currents, how the ocean moves, and what that tells us, helps to shed light on how ocean conditions affect objects in the water. Her spirit of curiosity and her depth of knowledge on the ocean make her an ideal Godmother for this innovative ship.
SILVER RAY: THE SECOND SHIP IN THE INNOVATIVE NOVA CLASS
Strengthening Royal Caribbean Group’s commitment to unlocking the very best experiences in ultra-luxury and expedition cruise travel, Silversea’s Nova Class ships mark a new take on luxury at sea, introducing an unparalleled openness to the world with an asymmetrical design and 4,000m2 of exterior glass. Silver Ray joins her sister ship, Silver Nova, as one of the most energy-efficient ultra-luxury cruise ships ever built, representing an important milestone on Royal Caribbean Group’s journey to net zero emissions. Due to embark on her maiden voyage from Lisbon on June 15, Silver Ray will spend her inaugural season in the Mediterranean before crossing the Atlantic to the Americas in December 2024.
CELEBRATING 30 YEARS OF DESTINATION LEADERSHIP IN 2024
In its three-decade history, Silversea’s ultra-luxury ships have welcomed almost 800,000 guests who have amassed roughly 13 million accumulated Venetian Society cruise days. Since pioneering the ultra-luxury, all-inclusive cruise concept with the launch of Silver Cloud in 1994, the industry-leading brand has consistently pushed boundaries to unlock unique travel experiences for its guests. Many of the brand’s early characteristics continue to set its offering apart: guests enjoy an intimate atmosphere on all-suite ships, with balconies in virtually all accommodations and some of the highest space-to-guest ratios at sea; unparalleled service standards, including butler service in every suite; a comprehensive all-inclusive offering, with complimentary drinks served throughout the ship and exceptional culinary experiences in a range of restaurants on every ship; and a wealth of immersive experiences in the most enriching destinations around the world.

Standout destinations include Hilo, Kahului, and Honolulu in Hawaii; Nuku Hiva; Rangiroa; Moorea; Bora Bora; Apia; Lautoka; Champagne Beach; Lifou; Airlie Beach in the Whitsundays; Darwin; and Brisbane. As well as having the opportunity to visit the UNESCO-listed Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, guests will enjoy a bespoke World Cruise event on this beautiful archipelago, honoring ancient Polynesian seafarers at a sunset ho'olaule'a in Honolulu, with traditional fare, tropical libations, and a night of stargazing.
AN OCEAN OF LIFE: THE INDIAN OCEAN
Between Brisbane and Cape Town, travelers will reconnect with Mother Nature, connecting with ancient cultures and witnessing iconic wildlife. An immersion into the Indian Ocean will center upon a seven-day deep dive of South Africa, inspired by Silversea’s extensive scouting in the region, with safari experiences to spot the Big Five in some of the planet’s most spectacular landscapes. Highlights of this chapter include Bali, Semarang, Singapore, Colombo, the Maldives, Seychelles, Reunion, South Africa, and more. UNESCO-listed highlights of this segment include a visit to the Great Barrier Reef and a chance to explore the Vallée de Mai Nature Reserve on the island of Praslin, Seychelles. An included two-night overland experience from Durban to Port Elizabeth will enable world-cruising guests to journey deeper ashore into the heart of southern Africa, immersing them into one of the seven natural wonders of the world, the Victoria Falls. Guests will arrive by air to witness the majesty of these iconic falls from every angle, including a private sunset river cruise. Accommodated in unique comfort in a luxury outpost alongside the Zambezi River, they will discover this mighty natural phenomenon as Dr. Livingstone found it in 1855.
AN OCEAN OF DISCOVERY: THE ATLANTIC OCEAN
The Three Oceans World Cruise 2027 will enable travelers to follow the footprints of humanity’s evolution between Cape Town and Copenhagen, exploring the region’s dramatic landscapes and ancient secrets. From the fjords of Norway to the remote northern islands of the United Kingdom, the storied maritime history of Northern Ireland, and the famed cities of Northern Europe, the advancement of civilization is open to interpretation in each of the Atlantic Ocean’s varied attractions. Departing Cape Town before venturing along the west coast of Africa, Silver Dawn will unlock Namibia, Angola, Ghana, and Gambia, before arriving in Dakar. Praia, Arrecife, Agadir, Casablanca, and more, precede guests’ arrival in Lisbon. And various destinations throughout the Western Mediterranean and the United Kingdom lead to North Europe. Curated by Silversea’s destination experts, the brand’s guests will enjoy a bespoke night of musical performance at St. Anne’s Cathedral in Belfast, with an evening of harmonies from across the Emerald Isle, fine local gastronomy, and various cultural celebrations in a magnificent setting.
Each stay in port has been selected to optimize the experience in each destination. As well as 11 overnights in such iconic destinations as Honolulu, Cairns, Colombo, Cape Town, Bordeaux, and more, Silver Dawn will spend longer in port than any other World Cruise, enabling greater access to more enriching experiences – the ancient city of Kandy, the Yala National Park, and game drives from Port Elizabeth, for example.

Traveling aboard the ultra-luxury Silver Dawn, one of the smallest world-cruising ships, guests will benefit from the small-ship intimacy and one of the highest space-to-guest ratios at sea, at 68 GRT-per-guest, which are hallmarks of the Silversea experience. “Silver Ray, the second ship in our cutting-edge Nova Class, alongside sister ship Silver Nova, beautifully encompasses Royal Caribbean Group’s vision for the future of innovative ultra-luxury and expedition cruise travel,” said Bert Hernandez, president, Silversea. “In addition to being one of the most energy efficient ships ever built, Silver Ray's game-changing, outward-facing ship design enables greater access and connection for our guests to the incredible destinations we visit. SILVERSEA REFINES AN ICON OF LUXURY, ANNOUNCING DUVAL-LEROY AS ITS CHAMPAGNE OF CHOICE
A family-operated brand with six generations of expertise, Duval-Leroy shares Silversea’s commitment to exceptional quality, attention to detail, and passion for its craft
Watch: Silversea’s Wine Ambassador introduces Duval-Leroy.
(MIAMI, FL – May 10, 2024) Silversea, the leading ultra-luxury cruise travel brand, has refined an icon of luxury across its fleet, introducing Duval-Leroy as its champagne of choice. A long-standing, independent, family-operated producer of fine champagnes with six generations of expertise, Duval-Leroy’s core values align with those of Silversea: an unwavering commitment to exceptional quality, uncompromising attention to detail, and a deep passion for its craft. Silversea has commenced the introduction of Duval-Leroy Brut Réserve as its pouring champagne of choice aboard its ultra-luxury ships.
"When selecting a champagne, the consideration of quality is paramount,” said Lawrence d’Almeida, Silversea’s Wine Ambassador. “For Silversea, this begins with choosing the right partner. And Duval-Leroy was, for us, a natural choice. It is a long-standing family business, always focused on achieving the highest quality. With Silversea, they share an uncompromising commitment to excellence, achieved through attention to detail and passion for its craft."
A name synonymous with elegance, Duval-Leroy is located in the heart of the Cote des Blancs, in Vertus, Champagne, comprising more than two hundred hectares of vines – planted mainly with Chardonnay on plots classified as ‘Grand Cru’ or ‘Premier Cru’. The house has crafted exceptional wines since 1859, earning it the unofficial designation of Champagnes de Créateurs. Producing a variety of champagnes that champion the French tradition of creativity while looking to the future, the Duval-Leroy family improves and innovates with each new generation. The wines of the house exalt the exceptional qualities of the region and set high standards for superior tasting quality. Among the most exciting stories in champagne today, Duval-Leroy takes a boutique approach to production, limiting the size of its production to ensure the highest quality of its labels.
Guests will enjoy three Duval-Leroy champagnes aboard Silversea’s ships. Part of the house’s classic range, the Duval-Leroy Brut Réserve will be the brand’s complimentary champagne of choice and will greet guests upon arrival in their suites. The Duval-Leroy family has been perfecting the quality of its non-vintage Brut Réserve since 1859, reconciling passion and aesthetic sensibility. Matured on its lees for 30 to 36 months, it comprises 60% Pinot Noir, 30% Pinot Meunier, and 10% Chardonnay. Floral with complex aromas of almond and toast, the Brut Réserve is perfectly balanced between finesse and power on the palate, developing flavors of citrus and fruit, such as apple and pear.
From the house’s prestige range, the Duval-Leroy Rosé Prestige Premier Cru will be offered to guests in upper suites upon embarkation, while the Duval-Leroy Femme de Champagne 2002 will also be available on the Connoisseur’s wine list for a fee.
Champagne is offered on a complimentary basis aboard each of Silversea’s ships (with the exception of Silver Origin, on which fine sparkling wine is served), as part of one of the most comprehensive all-inclusive offerings at sea. Guests also enjoy premium spirits, butler service in every suite category, shore excursions, gourmet dining in a range of restaurants, and more.

TWO IMMERSIVE ITINERARIES, 17 SAILINGS, COUNTLESS EXPERIENCES
From April 6, 2026, Silver Whisper will undertake 17 voyages in French Polynesia, homeporting out of Papeete, Tahiti. A mark of the brand’s destination leadership, Silversea’s destination experts spent months scouting the region to identify the very best islands and atolls in which to call, as well as the most engaging experiences for guests. Travelers can choose from seven- or 14-night itineraries – both of which foster meaningful connections with the destination:
SEVEN DAYS: THE SOCIETY ISLANDS
The shorter of the two itineraries sees Silver Whisper journey among the Society Islands’ most iconic destinations, as well as off-the-beaten-path gems. Formed by volcanoes and fringed by beautiful coral reefs, the islands of the Society Archipelago are characterized by towering mountains and white-sanded atolls, offering the quintessential French Polynesian experience. From Papeete, Tahiti, guests will journey to Moorea, Raiatea on an overnight call, Huahine, and Bora Bora overnight. Three late departures maximize guests’ time in Papeete, Moorea, and Huahine, enabling them to connect with the rich Polynesian culture, captivating local traditions, and the region’s 3,000-year history. Hosted by an expert guide aboard a traditional boat in Bora Bora, guests will learn about the important role of storytelling in local culture and how early navigators used the stars to sail through the Pacific Ocean. In Huahine, travelers can join a cultural nature walk to discover the archaeological sites of the village of Maeva, while admiring tropical plants and stunning treetop views of the coastline. In Moorea, Bora Bora, and Huahine, guests can snorkel in crystal-clear waters for the chance to witness hundreds of fish species and corals. Guests will also have the option of relaxing on a private island or motu, enjoying a traditional barbeque and local music.
14 DAYS: THE SOCIETY, TUAMOTU, AND MARQUESAS ISLANDS
Guests in search of a longer, more encompassing sailing need only look to Silver Whisper’s 14-day voyage, which combines the very best aspects of the great diversity of French Polynesia. The iconic, mountainous terrain of the Society Islands contrasts with the remote atolls and in-water opportunities of the Tuamotus, while the cultural offering and community encounters of the Marquesas Islands, one of the most far-flung archipelagos in the world, offers yet another element of enrichment. Departing from Papeete, Tahiti, guests will explore Moorea, Raiatea on an overnight call, Fakarava, Nuku Hiva, Fatu Hiva, Atuona, Tahuata, Rangiroa, and Bora Bora, before returning to Papeete. As well as discovering the iconic peaks of the Society Islands and snorkeling to admire the archipelago’s abundant marine life, guests on both itineraries can spot whales (August-November), accompanied by expert guides; learn about local culinary traditions in a test kitchen in Moorea; and discover Raiatea by electric bicycle, among other immersive experiences. As on the seven-day itinerary, guests will also have the chance to relax on a private island, as a highlight experience.
Additionally, a 21-day Easter Island sailing, departing Valparaiso on March 16, and two combination voyages broaden the regional offering for guests.

The newest ship to join the Silversea™ fleet introduces all-new enhancements to the brand’s Roman-inspired wellness program
(Miami, FL – November 2, 2023) Following its successful debut aboard Silver Dawn℠ in 2022, the Otium℠ wellness program has evolved aboard the newest ship in the Silversea™ fleet, Silver Nova®, to include an even wider array of indulgent experiences and amenities. Grounded in the philosophy and traditions of the ancient Roman lifestyle, Silversea’s Otium wellness program was designed to offer guests unprecedented moments of indulgence through tailored wellness experiences. As well as a thoughtfully designed Otium Spa that includes an indoor relaxation pool, Silver Nova offers guests enhanced in-suite experiences, bespoke bathroom amenities, dedicated Otium Suites, and more.
“Unique in the industry, Silversea’s Roman-inspired Otium wellness program speaks to our brand’s commitment to offering our guests some of the world’s most luxurious travel experiences,” said Barbara Muckermann, President of Silversea. “Pampering guests with bespoke moments of indulgence, as part of a wellness journey that begins in the comfort of their suite and extends throughout the ship, Otium has evolved aboard Silver Nova, with a redesigned spa, new Otium amenities, an all-new in-suite experience, and more. Otium marks just one of many enhancements aboard Silver Nova, which pushes boundaries in ultra-luxury travel and represents the evolution of our fleet.”
Silver Nova introduces the following enhancements to Silversea’s Otium program:
· OTIVM SUITES: A FIRST FOR SILVERSEA
The Otium Suite is one of seven new suite categories introduced aboard Silver Nova, which offers guests the choice of 13 categories in total. At 1,324ft2 (123m2) each, Silver Nova’s two Otium Suites are the ship’s most spacious accommodations, providing the ultimate suite experience at sea in the premium aft-corner position. Featuring floor-to-ceiling windows in all living areas, the two suites unlock unprecedented 270-degree views from the inside, while their 431ft2 (40m2) balconies are the most spacious on board and feature a private whirlpool. The Otium Suites also include custom-made luxury mattresses, two large flat-screen televisions, sound systems with Bluetooth connectivity, and espresso machines. Each Otium Suite also features five Roman-inspired artworks, curated to strengthen the sense of relaxation. As well as the wellness program’s inclusive in-suite experiences, guests staying in Silver Nova’s Otium Suites can enjoy a complimentary treatment in the spa to the value of up to USD 399 per person, based on double occupancy.
· AN ALL-NEW IN-SUITE EXPERIENCE: THE OTIVM SHOWER EXPERIENCE
With Otium, guests’ wellness journeys begin in their suites before extending throughout the ship. First introduced aboard Silver Dawn, guests can benefit from Otium’s signature sleeping experience, featuring the finest linens and a choice of pillows; the Otium bathing experience, which includes a range of bespoke bath salts, gourmet delicacies, and a curated playlist; the first balcony experience at sea, tailored to both warm and cold weather; and the Otium comfort food experience, comprising a selection of decadent snacks. Silver Nova expands the array of in-suite Otium experiences, with the introduction of a brand-new shower experience. Designed to offer a sensorial moment of relaxation, the new Otium shower experience enables guests to enjoy the aromas of essential oils from invigorating shower steamers. Guests have the option of three fragrances:
o Deep Sleep – featuring notes of lavender, rose geranium, and black pepper to help relax and prepare for a deep sleep.
o Mood Boost – an energizing and invigorating option, uplifting to the senses, featuring notes of lemon, peppermint, pink grapefruit, bergamot, rosemary, lavender and lemon verbena.
o Steam Room – a purifying and relaxing option, designed for any time of the day, featuring notes of eucalyptus, rosemary, pine, and black pepper.
· NEW OTIVM AMENITIES
Silver Nova introduces a new collection of refillable Otium bathroom amenities, which speaks to the ultra-luxury travel brand’s commitment to preserving the planet while pampering guests. Developed with La Bottega – a distinguished hospitality curator who collaborates with master perfumers to create signature fragrances and products – the luxurious amenities were designed exclusively for Silversea to provide a soothing olfactory journey to guests, while minimizing waste, utilizing refillable ceramic dispensers. The products are created with ethically sourced, natural ingredients and the formulas have been enhanced with meticulously selected essential oils, and are suitable for vegans, SLES free, paraben free, and silicon free. Inspired by the Mediterranean, fragrances include sun-ripened orange, tangy lemon, bergamot, grapefruit, patchouli, amber, ambergris, and more.
· A NEW ROMAN-INSPIRED OTIVM SPA DESIGN
Aboard Silver Nova, the Otium Spa has been repositioned towards the ship’s bow. The 3,638ft² (338m²) space incorporates an indoor relaxation pool; an elegantly decorated spa, with eight treatment rooms, including two Otium treatment rooms complete with experiential showers and state-of-the-art treatment beds, and a tranquil relaxation area; fitness centre; and beauty salon. Inspired by the design of Ancient Roman baths, the Otium Spa has an open, welcoming feel, in which guests’ wellness journeys flow seamlessly between interconnecting areas. The thermal area is larger than ever and includes steam and sauna rooms; an indoor pool, inspired by ancient designs; a travertine and water fountain wall; and a floor-to-ceiling window that provides far-reaching views. The choice of lighting and materials resonates with the Roman bath concept and were chosen to further enhance guests’ sensory experiences. Touches of red marble and soft ripple-effect lighting accentuate raw materials. The Otium treatment menu features a wider selection of durations to cater for all preferences, with a curated array of treatments that utilize the finest ingredients.

THE 1,800-PIECE ART COLLECTION ABOARD SILVER NOVA® SPARKS CURIOSITY AND CHAMPIONS DISCOVERY
Silver Nova’s art collection includes almost 1,800 artworks by 59 artists from 25 countries and takes guests on a visual journey
(Miami, FL – October 5, 2023) Comprising approximately 1,800 pieces by 59 artists from 25 countries, the art collection of Silver Nova® is the largest of any ship in the history of Silversea®, meticulously curated to illuminate a new way of sensing, being, and discovering. Taking guests on a visual journey that sparks curiosity and stimulates their desire for exploration, the art program brings together an international collection of works — most of which were commissioned for specific locations aboard Silver Nova to complement the ship’s many architectural innovations.
“The entire Silversea experience is tailored to the interests and expectations of our curious guests,” said Barbara Muckermann, President of Silversea. “Much like our immersive and experience-led voyages – which shine a light on our planet’s most remarkable cultures – our art collection on board Silver Nova was curated by experts to take guests on a visual journey of discovery and self-enrichment. With approximately 1,800 pieces by almost 60 artists to admire, this journey is as spectacular as our newest ship’s pioneering architecture.”
ICArt, an international art consultancy that has specialized in creating unique art experiences for over three decades, curated Silver Nova’s art collection with great thoughtfulness, sourcing over 1,250 framed artworks, 9 installations, 8 sculptures, and more – including intriguing and storied antiques, Murano glass vases, and artistic books.
“Art adds dimension, context and meaning to the experience on Silver Nova,” said Mariangela Capuzzo, Chief Creative Officer of ICArt. “It captures guests’ intellect and imagination. Our intention was to create a visual impact that sparks curiosity, both visually and conceptually. Our curatorial direction on Silver Nova shines a light on a new way of sensing, a new way of being, and a new way of discovering. It is about exploring the cultures of the world and exploring destinations.”
Highlights of Silver Nova’s extensive art collection include:
THE MESSINA COLLECTION: 38 BRONZE SCULPTURES
The Messina collection comprises 38 bronze sculptures by famed Italian sculptor Francesco Messina, in the classic 20th century Novecento style. Silversea acquired the collection in 2006 and 14 important pieces have come together for the first time aboard Silver Nova. One of the collection’s most noteworthy sculptures is the 4.5-foot-tall (1.37m) ‘Scuola di Danza’ — translated as ‘School of Dance’ — which depicts a ballerina who welcomes guests with open arms on deck 2.
SUITE CORRIDORS: A DIALOGUE BETWEEN PAST AND PRESENT
The artistic direction for the suite corridors continues the exploration of history, culture, and nature found throughout the staircases. Photography by long-term Silversea ambassador Steve McCurry in key focal points, alongside a myriad of maps from the Theatrum Orbis Terrarum — considered the first true modern atlas — creates a dialogue between past and present, inviting guests on a journey through time. Each suite corridor, from deck 6 to deck 9, focuses on a distinct geographical region: deck 6, Europe; deck 7, Asia; deck 8, Africa; and deck 9, the Americas.
OTIVM℠: ROMAN-INSPIRED ARTISTRY
Paying testament to Silversea’s Otium wellness program, which enhances the onboard experience for guests, Roman-inspired artworks decorate the Otium Spa and the two Otium suites (five pieces in each suite) aboard Silver Nova. Venus Fragmentée #2, for example – a Romanesque bust in plaster, by artist Marina Mankarios – sits on a plinth at the entrance to the Otium Spa. In Roman culture, Otium — the opposite of negotium, the nonexistence of pleasure — was an indulgent period of time dedicated to leisure, in which people bathed, conversed, theorized, drank, ate, and relaxed.
THE LIBRARY: A DREAMY LOOK AT THE SEA AND SKY
In the concealed Library on deck 10, Albanian artist Artur Sula has created an arresting mural on the ceiling, inviting visitors to survey the sea and look deep into the constellations of the night’s sky. The work, covering 280 square feet, was hand-painted in place and highlighted using 24K gold leaf.
