SILVERSEA CRUISES OFFICIALLY NAMES NEWEST SHIP, SILVER MOON, IN ATHENS
The christening of Silversea’s ninth ultra-luxury ship marks a milestone in the cruise line’s return to global service
(Athens – July 28, 2021) Silversea Cruises today christened Silver Moon as the newest ship in its ultra-luxury fleet, building momentum in the cruise line’s global return to service.
Held aboard the ship in the port of Piraeus, Silver Moon’s official naming ceremony was attended by many esteemed guests, including Richard D. Fain, Royal Caribbean Group, Chairman and CEO; Roberto Martinoli, President and CEO of Silversea Cruises; Jason Liberty, Royal Caribbean Group, Executive Vice President and CFO; Captain Chavdar Georgiev; Luigi Matarazzo, General Manager of Fincantieri’s Merchant Ships Division; and the Honorable Minister Harry Theoharis, Greece’s Minister of Tourism, among others. Becoming the first ultra-luxury cruise ship to set sail following the pandemic, Silver Moon embarked upon her inaugural season from Athens from June 18, undertaking a series of 10-day voyages in the Greek Isles.
Following maritime traditions, Reverend Father Ioannis Patsis, Vice President of Caritas Hellas, blessed the vessel, before the ship’s Godmother, Gaia Gaja – of the renowned Italian Gaja Winery – broke a bottle of champagne on the ship’s bow. Guests viewed the event on screens throughout the ship and members of Silversea’s extended family streamed the broadcast online, as Silver Moon officially became the ninth ship in the leading ultra-luxury cruise line’s fleet.
“Witnessing the official naming of Silver Moon—the first of Silversea’s christenings as part of Royal Caribbean Group—was a very proud moment indeed,” says Richard D. Fain. “I commend Silversea’s leadership team, Captain Georgiev and Silver Moon’s crew, the team of Fincantieri, and everyone involved in the ship’s launch for their tireless efforts in bringing this long-awaited milestone to fruition.”
“This is an extraordinary milestone in the history of our cruise line,” says Roberto Martinoli. “We today christened Silver Moon as the ninth ship in our fleet, marking an evolution in 21st-century luxury travel. As the first ultra-luxury cruise ship to set sail this year, Silver Moon leads the way in the return of ultra-luxury cruising. She represents our industry’s strength and resilience. Aboard the newest addition to our fleet, our guests will re-discover the world in unrivaled comfort and whispered luxury. I extend my gratitude to the Royal Caribbean Group, Fincantieri, Captain Georgiev and the ship’s crew, as well as our teams ashore, for making this momentous occasion possible.”
“It was an honor to cut the ribbon and signal the official naming of Silver Moon as the ship’s Godmother,” says Gaia Gaja. “Launching Silversea’s new S.A.L.T. program, Silver Moon embodies the core values that my family’s winery shares with this cruise line: a reverence for tradition, a commitment to unwavering quality, and a deep respect for cultural values. I look forward to journeying aboard this beautiful ship to dive deep into the Greek Isles’ celebrated culinary cultures.”
At 40,700 gross tons and with a maximum capacity of 596 guests, Silver Moon is the cruise line’s second Muse-class ship in its fast-growing fleet. Constructed by Fincantieri at its Ancona shipyard, Silver Moon is an evolution of her sister ship Silver Muse. The ship benefits from re-imagined public spaces, butler service in all suite categories, anearly 1:1 crew-to-guest ratio, and Silversea’s hallmark small-ship intimacy.
The launch of Silver Moon also marks the debut of Silversea’s revolutionary new culinary program, Sea and Land Taste or S.A.L.T.℠. Three new onboard venues form a hub of culinary discovery for guests: in Silver Moon’s S.A.L.T. Kitchen, S.A.L.T. Lab, and S.A.L.T. Bar, guests are invited to delve deeper into each region’s cuisine and culture with regionally-inspired dishes, drinks, and demonstrations. Special S.A.L.T. shore excursions enable travelers to experience the food and drink cultures of each destination firsthand.
Silversea is leading the way in the global restart of ultra-luxury cruising. The first of two ships in Silversea’s fleet to have returned to service, Silver Moon is joined by new ship Silver Origin—now sailing on all-new itineraries in the Galapagos Islands. Silver Muse will become the first ultra-luxury ship to set sail for Alaska when she departs for the region’s glaciers from Seattle on July 29. Beginning July 30, Silver Shadow will undertake all-Icelandic circumnavigations out of Reykjavik. Additional Silversea ships are expected to set sail in the near future and Silversea’s third new ship since 2020, Silver Dawn, is scheduled to depart on her maiden voyage in November 2021.
Silver Moon is one of six Silversea ships—others include Silver Muse, Silver Origin, Silver Shadow, Silver Whisper, and Silver Explorer—to have recently earned Certification in Infection Prevention for the Maritime industry (CIP-M) from the world’s leading classification society, DNV. These certifications highlight Silversea’s commitment to safeguarding the health and well-being of guests, crew, and the communities it visits as part of the company’s healthy return to service.

Silver Moon is the third ship to be built by Fincantieri for Silversea Cruises, with the fourth—Silver Dawn—scheduled for 2021.
Silver Moon is the third ship to be built by Fincantieri for Silversea Cruises, with the fourth—Silver Dawn—scheduled for 2021.
(ANCONA, ITALY -- October 30, 2020) Silversea Cruises today took delivery of new ship Silver Moon—the ninth vessel in the leading ultra-luxury cruise line’s fleet.
During an intimate celebration held at Fincantieri’s shipyard in Ancona, executives from Silversea Cruises, the Royal Caribbean Group, and Fincantieri expressed gratitude to all involved: delivering live speeches via video feed, Richard D. Fain, Chairman and CEO of the Royal Caribbean Group, and Jason Liberty, Executive Vice President and CFO of the Royal Caribbean Group, each commended the more than 1,000 craftspeople who contributed to the build. Present in Ancona, Luigi Matarazzo—Fincantieri’s General Manager Merchant Ships Division—and Roberto Martinoli—Silversea’s President and CEO—addressed attendees, before Martinoli penned his signature to officially take delivery of the ship.
Giovanni Stecconi, the Director of Fincantieri’s shipyard in Ancona, subsequently presented Captain Alessandro Zanello, Silver Moon’s Master—who was also at the helm for the delivery Silver Moon’s sister ship, Silver Muse, in 2017—with a commemorative ampoule that contained seawater from the launch. Concluding Silver Moon’s delivery, those present raised a glass of champagne, while respecting physical distancing protocol, to welcome the ship to Silversea’s fleet.
“I congratulate all those involved in the build of Silver Moon; it is a proud moment for everybody at Silversea Cruises, the Royal Caribbean Group, and Fincantieri,” says Richard D. Fain, Chairman and CEO of the Royal Caribbean Group. “This beautiful ship represents the resilience of the global cruise industry and it is encouraging to see such innovation and progress in this challenging period. I have long said that Silversea Cruises is the jewel in the crown of the Royal Caribbean Group and I am today reminded of the cruise line’s quality. Silver Moon represents the pinnacle of luxury travel; I look forward to welcoming our guests aboard in the near future.”
"We are absolutely delighted to welcome Silver Moon to the Silversea fleet. The epitome of 21st-century luxury travel, she possesses a number of innovations that will build on the success of her sister ship Silver Muse, such as our pioneering new S.A.L.T. culinary program, which we are eager for our guests to experience," says Martinoli. "Every exquisite detail of Silver Moon is an expression of our successful collaboration with one of the world's premier shipbuilders. It is apt that Silver Moon was built here in Italy, a cradle of luxury and a country celebrated for its rich culinary heritage. I thank Fincantieri’s leadership team and the more than 1,000 talented craftspeople who overcame the unprecedented challenges of 2020 to make this delivery possible. I also thank Royal Caribbean Group for their invaluable support; Silver Moon is a testament to the success of our collaboration."
"Silver Moon is the third of Silversea’s ultra-luxury cruise ships to result from our longstanding, successful collaboration, and we at Fincantieri take great pride in handing over a ship that embodies the highest standards of style, comfort, and whispered luxury," says Giuseppe Bono, CEO of Fincantieri. "We are honored to have partnered with Silversea in launching their highly successful Muse-class ships, and we are confident that Silver Moon will strengthen the line's legacy of pushing boundaries in luxury cruise travel."
S.A.L.T. Program: Immersive Culinary Enrichment
Debuting aboard Silver Moon is the innovative new culinary enrichment program S.A.L.T., an acronym of Sea and Land Taste, which will enable guests to travel deeper through a range of destination-focused gastronomic experiences—both on-board and ashore.
As part of the S.A.L.T. program, three new venues will unlock immersive culinary experiences for guests on Silver Moon, forming a hub of culinary discovery on Deck 4:
Among the largest of eight restaurants aboard Silver Moon, S.A.L.T. Kitchen is the first large-scale regional restaurant aboard a luxury cruise ship, offering a menu that changes with the destination and a regionally inspired wine list;
S.A.L.T. Lab is a test kitchen that enables guests to learn about local ingredients and artisanal techniques, through insightful workshops, tastings, and demonstrations;
and S.A.L.T. Bar allows guests to sample the most authentic flavors of the destination, through a large selection of regional wines, spirits, and other drinks.
Enhanced Public Spaces
At 40,700 gross tons and with a maximum capacity of just 596 guests, Silver Moon takes influence from the successful design of her sister ship, Silver Muse, and maintains the small-ship intimacy and spacious all-suite accommodations that are hallmarks of the Silversea experience. At the same time, a number of public spaces have been reimagined for the enjoyment of guests, including the following sample:
Serving fine French cuisine in an elegant atmosphere, Silversea's signature restaurant, La Dame, has been redesigned and enlarged to accommodate 56 guests, with the option to dine outdoors. Bespoke Lalique crystal panels have been incorporated into the restaurant’s design to enrich the space’s aesthetic.
Guests’ favorite Atlantide restaurant has been enlarged and enriched to accommodate up to 220 guests.
Minimalist yet sophisticated, the enhanced design of Kaiseki takes inspiration from the best sushi restaurants in the world. Here, guests will witness expert sushi chefs in action, as they prepare fresh sushi, sashimi and other Asian-inspired dishes that are inspired by the seasons.
The popular Dolce Vita lounge has a new layout with the bar repositioned to the center of the venue. Dolce Vita will welcome guests as both a sophisticated bar during the daytime and as an enchanting piano bar by night.
The Connoisseur's Corner now features a new Wintergarden area, creating a sheltered and inviting area outdoors. In the Connoisseur's Corner, guests will enjoy a selection of cigars and premium liquors in a sophisticated atmosphere.
The Suite Life
Enriched with elegant décor, premium materials, and luxurious amenities, Silver Moon's 298 spacious suites benefit from one of the highest space-to-guest ratios of any luxury cruise accommodation, offering superlative comfort to guests—a characteristic feature of the Silversea experience. And, with bespoke, handcrafted luxury beds by Savoir enriching the ship's top 10 suites—four Owner's Suites, four Grand Suites, and two Royal Suites—guests in these accommodations will experience a distinctive level of comfort even as they sleep. Guests in every suite will enjoy the dedicated service of a butler, as well as an in-suite bar, stocked with preferred beverages; in-suite dining, available 24 hours per day; and various other luxurious amenities.

Silversea Cruises Commends Skilled Craftspeople as Silver Moon Nears Completion
Silversea Cruises will take delivery of new ship #SilverMoon on October 30th, 2020—less than one month from now.
Silversea Cruises will take delivery of new ship #SilverMoon on October 30th, 2020—less than one month from now.
Over 390 companies have contributed to the Silver Moon’s build, with over 1,000 skilled craftspeople working simultaneously on the ship during the peak months.
Silver Moon will build on the success of her sister ship, Silver Muse, to epitomize 21st-century luxury travel
(Monaco – October 8, 2020) Taking influence from the success of her sister ship Silver Muse, Silver Moon will welcome guests in whispered luxury when the ship becomes the ninth vessel in Silversea’s fleet on October 30th, 2020. Many of the same craftspeople who contributed to the build of Silver Muse have plied their skills to Silver Moon too, bringing expertise from around the world while preserving Silversea’s elegant Italian heritage.
During the peak months of Silver Moon’s construction at Fincantieri’s shipyard in Ancona, over 1,000 skilled professionals were working on the ship simultaneously, with over 390 companies contributing to her build. Silversea Cruises spotlights just some of the talented craftspeople who were involved in Silver Moon’s build.
“Each and every element of Silver Moon’s interior spaces has been crafted to enhance guests’ experiences and comfort,” says Barbara Muckermann, Silversea’s Chief Marketing Officer. “We value the craftsmanship of our distinguished suppliers—each of whom was selected for their commitment to exceptional quality. From our Savoir beds to our Lalique crystal artworks, the fine details of our new ship is reflected throughout our entire cruise experience. Silver Moon will push boundaries in the world of travel and I look forward to welcoming our guests aboard in the near future, as they discover the authentic beauty of the world in a new standard of comfort.”
HIRSCH-BEDNER ASSOCIATES – S.A.L.T. VENUES
Among the most innovative features of Silver Moon, Silversea’s new culinary program, S.A.L.T. (Sea and Land Taste), will inspire guests in three dedicated venues—S.A.L.T. Lab, S.A.L.T. Kitchen, and S.A.L.T. Bar—which were designed and built by multi-award winning design firm Hirsch-Bedner Associates. Work on Silver Moon’s S.A.L.T. venues took 18 months from initial brief to completion, with approximately 2,740 man-hours invested by craftspeople in London, Miami, and various locations in Italy. Across the three venues, around 330m2 of carpet was used, as well as 220m2 of tiles, 160 spotlighting fixtures, 137 chairs plus banquette seating, 81 tables, and one purpose-built wine cellar.
“Silver Moon will be the first of Silversea’s ships to incorporate an entire ecosystem for culinary discovery and the S.A.L.T. program is an innovation for the world of cruise,” says Matteo Pace, Associate at HBA. “Creating a synergy between the ship’s three S.A.L.T. venues, which evolves from day to night, and having such a strong sociable element to the immersive culinary experiences is completely unique. The brief was about finding a balance between land and sea, bringing the two together through the world’s culinary influences. Each space needed a bespoke design with a clear connection, driven by the overall flow. Tactile and surprising in their design, the spaces needed to bring to life places and personalities, and be experiences within themselves. The S.A.L.T. program will transport travelers on a journey of discovery from port to port, which is reflected in the design of the venues, with lots of unique objects that draw on influences from all over the world. The color palettes used in each venue enhance the guest journey, with lighter tones employed in the communal areas and cooking spaces in S.A.L.T. Lab; rich details and accents in the main restaurant, S.A.L.T. Kitchen; and a darker, more mysterious feel for S.A.L.T. Bar, evolving the guest experience as the day goes on.”
GEM – PUBLIC VENUES AND SUITES
Accommodating just 596 guests in 298 ocean-view suites - 96% of which have a private veranda - and with a crew-to-guest ratio of 1:1.45, Silver Moon will maintain the small-ship intimacy and spacious accommodation which are the hallmarks of the Silversea experience. As for Silver Muse, GEM was appointed as the architectural firm tasked with designing the public spaces and suites aboard Silver Moon.
“In true Silversea style, Silver Moon certainly whispers luxury—just like her sister ship Silver Muse,” says Lorenzo Mortola of GEM. “Beyond the introduction of the S.A.L.T. program, the overall guest experience has been enhanced, with guest feedback from Silver Muse informing the new ship’s design. Many venues have been enriched aboard Silver Moon: the enlarged La Dame Restaurant will now accommodate 56 diners and is decorated with 11 handcrafted Lalique crystal panels; the popular Atlantide Restaurant has been increased aboard Silver Moon, with a capacity of 220; the Connoisseur’s Corner now includes a sophisticated outdoor area; and the Dolce Vita Lounge, at the heart of the ship, will also enjoy a new layout, with a warm atmosphere that changes throughout the day. Guests will experience various other enrichments as they explore the ship. Each enrichment will contribute to Silver Moon’s status as one of the most luxurious and comfortable ships afloat.”
LALIQUE – HANDCRAFTED CRYSTAL ARTWORKS
Another bespoke embellishment aboard Silver Moon, 11 handmade crystal artworks by Lalique adorn the walls of La Dame Restaurant. A team of around 15, including a designer from the Lalique Interior Design Studio, an engineer, and a team of specialised Lalique artisans, completed the project over an 18-month period. Lalique’s craftspeople spent approximately 30 hours on producing each bespoke panel, applying their ancestral know-how in the company’s historic French factory, which dates back to 1922. Before being installed on Silver Moon, each of the crystal panels underwent two essential stages during the manufacturing process. During the hot glass process, Lalique’s glassmakers braved extreme temperatures in the workshop to gather, clean, shape, and reheat the crystal. Next, in the cold glass process, the artisans applied unwavering attention to detail to sculpt and finish each creation, forming a characteristic contrast between clear and matte crystal—a hallmark of Lalique’s design.
“Both the Lalique and Silversea teams showed remarkable prowess during the accomplishment of this project,” says Silvio Denz, Chairman and CEO of Lalique. “We are thrilled that these entirely bespoke Lalique interior crystal panels will be sailing aboard the ultra-luxurious cruise ship Silver Moon, enriching to the unique cruise experience for Silversea’s guests.”
SAVOIR – AMONG THE BEST BEDS IN THE WORLD
Silver Moon will be one of the most comfortable ships at sea, with unusually high space-to-guest ratios and the personalized service of butlers in every suite, yet, in the ship’s top 10 suites – four Owner’s Suites, four Grand Suites, and two Royal Suites – travelers will experience a distinctive level of comfort even as they sleep. Widely considered as the world’s most illustrious maker of beds, Savoir has crafted 10 bespoke beds for Silver Moon. A masterpiece of longevity and comfort, each bed was handcrafted by Savoir’s artisan craftspeople in the company’s bedworks in Wales, with each piece taking over 30 hours to complete. As well as hand-teased horsehair and soft lambswool, the 10 beds comprise 72kg of needled cotton, 72kg layered cotton, 30kg wool, 32,560 mattress spring units, and 720 tufts. Each bespoke mattress offers dual tension, meaning guests can choose between firm support on one side and soft on the other. The result is perfect support and a rejuvenating night’s sleep. Each element of the beds - the box springs, the mattresses, and the toppers - were signed and dated by the craftsperson who created it, symbolizing the ultimate mark of pride in one’s craftsmanship.
“Savoir has a rich history as a bed provider for the world’s finest hotels and luxury cruise ships, starting with The Savoy,” says Alistair Hughes, Managing Director of Savoir. “We are thrilled to work with Silversea Cruises to offer guests the bespoke comfort of a Savoir bed on board Silver Moon. Like all our beds, the handcrafted Savoir toppers and mattresses will offer guests the ultimate cloud-like comfort.”

A New Moon Rises: Silversea’s Silver Moon Undergoes Sea Trials
Silversea’s Senior Officers Share Insight on Silver Moon’s Sea Trials and Look Ahead to the New Ship’s Delivery in October.
Silversea’s Senior Officers Share Insight on Silver Moon’s Sea Trials and Look Ahead to the New Ship’s Delivery in October.
(Monaco – August 27, 2020) Silversea’s new ship Silver Moon is one step closer to welcoming the cruise line’s guests, having successfully carried out her sea trials between August 8th and August 20th. Carrying a reduced crew of approximately 320 due to precautionary health protocols, the ship journeyed between Fincantieri’s shipyards in Ancona and Trieste, Italy, undergoing a week-long dry-dock period in the latter. With a delivery date set for October 30th, Silver Moon will become the second ship to join Silversea’s ultra-luxury fleet in 2020, following the delivery of Silver Origin on June 3.
THE SEA TRIALS
Silversea’s senior officers, external engineers, and representatives from both Fincantieri and the Royal Caribbean Group put Silver Moon through a series of preliminary tests in the Adriatic Sea - including noise, and vibration tests - for three days from August 8th. Once Silver Moon was out of the water in Trieste, stability tests were performed; public spaces were inspected; and engineers applied the finishing touches to the ship’s exterior, including the cleaning and painting of the hull, and the polishing of the ship’s brass propellers. Secondary tests, including speed tests, were then carried out on the return sailing from Trieste to Ancona. Work has now recommenced on the ship’s interior, ahead of the vessel’s official delivery in October.
SILVER MOON’S BUILD IN NUMBERS
The sister ship of Silversea’s Silver Muse, Silver Moon represents the latest accomplishment in the cruise line’s long-standing partnership with the illustrious shipbuilder Fincantieri. During the peak months of Silver Moon’s construction in Ancona, over 1,000 skilled professionals were working on the ship simultaneously, with over 390 companies contributing to the build. Painted using almost 100,000L of paint, over 15,000 steel plates and profiles were cut to form the ship’s superstructure – 920t of which were transported from 755nm away. Approximately 1,690,000m of electric cable were installed by 18 contractors, as well as 60,000m2 of insulation, 450,000kg of air conditioning ducts, and 92,000kg of ventilation ducts. Moreover, over 5,000 automation channels have been installed to link the ship’s mechanisms.
CAPTAIN ALESSANDRO ZANELLO – SILVER MOON’S MASTER
With over 20 years of experience at Silversea Cruises alone, Captain Alessandro Zanello was at the helm for the launch of Silver Moon’s sister ship, Silver Muse, back in 2017, and was also present for the sea trials of Silver Spirit in 2009.
“As my third with Silversea, I must say that Silver Moon’s sea trials felt a little surreal after everything that happened in the months prior,” says Zanello. “I was originally scheduled to travel to the shipyard in Ancona in April. I was with family in Canada at the time. Unfortunately there were no flights from Canada to Ancona, so I was unable to reach the ship until July. The sea trials themselves felt special, indeed, and were held in unique circumstances. Enhanced health and safety protocols were in place, including temperature screenings, physical distancing, and the wearing of face coverings both on the ship and in the shipyard. Meal hours were extended and we ate with fewer people in the restaurant. During the sea trials themselves, we had far fewer people on board than for those of Silver Muse. Safety was the primary concern. Nevertheless, we managed to carry out all test successfully. I must admit, sea trials can often be stressful, with too many people on the bridge; it was quite pleasant to have a more tranquil environment. Perhaps we will be forced to review our processes going forwards – this could be a positive thing. At the end of the sea trials, we shared a celebratory glass of prosecco with the team from Fincantieri. The ship is coming on nicely and she really is looking spectacular. This is a momentous occasion for all of us; we have worked very hard to reach this point. One of the most special moments for me was going into the dock to see the ship’s hull, before and after the painting. A small tradition of mine: I like to take a photo in front of the bulbous bow, when a fresh coat of paint glistens on the hull.”
GUIDO CAPURRO – SILVER MOON’S CHIEF ENGINEER
Promoted to the position of Chief Engineer aboard Silver Spirit in 2017, Guido Capurro participated in his first sea trials with Silversea aboard Silver Moon. Not only is Capurro responsible for the operation of the ship’s main and auxiliary engines, but he also directs the onboard technical department, with responsibilities that include air conditioning, plumbing, lifeboat engines, and launching apparatus.
“While all essential technicians from Silversea and Fincantieri were able to attend the sea trials, some external engineers were unable to fly and so could not be present. Approximately half the number of people were on board compared to regular sea trials. Nevertheless, we were able to carry out all tests successfully. These were my first sea trials with Silversea and it is always spectacular to see the ship at its peak performance, and to see how the automation and safety devices react to the sudden change in demand. Everything went really well and the ship's responses exceeded expectations. I was thrilled to see the ship's propellers out of the water once again, as they were polished during the dry-docking period in Trieste. The better they are polished, the better the ship’s performance. The hull was painted with a special antifouling with a very low roughness, which is an important task in optimizing the performance of the ship.”
PAOLO PERCIVALE – SILVER MOON’S HOTEL DIRECTOR
The son of a Captain, Hotel Director Paolo Percivale proudly participated in the launch of both Silver Spirit in 2009 and Silver Muse in 2017, before bringing his expertise aboard Silver Moon. As Hotel Director, he will oversee the entire hotel operation on board, managing a team of over 350 crewmembers to deliver exceptional service to Silversea’s guests.
“Just 10 days after we joined the shipyard at the beginning of March, the lockdown was implemented and everything came to a halt. We lived through the lockdown in Ancona. Guido and I, along with several other members of the team, were working from apartments in the city until the end of April, which was very difficult. After a spell back home once the lockdown ended, I returned to the shipyard on July 1st. It’s great to finally see Silver Moon nearing completion and to experience the various enhancements we have made from Silver Muse. In the Dolce Vita Lounge, for example, a beautiful bar has been installed as the space’s focal point, while La Dame Restaurant has been enriched with hand-crafted Lalique crystal panels. All public areas and suites are looking remarkable – I just can’t wait to welcome our guests on board, enjoying these new atmospheric venues. I am especially excited to see the reactions of our guests to our inspiring new S.A.L.T. program, and our new S.A.L.T. venues, which is sure to be more than positive. She is a beautiful vessel, indeed.”
“Silver Moon successfully passed her sea trials and we are now nearing the ship’s delivery,” says Giovanni Stecconi, Director of Fincantieri’s Ancona shipyard. “We look forward to celebrating that momentous occasion together with Silversea, a cruise line whose growth we have contributed to with pride and determination, thanks to ambitious projects such as the ‘Muse’ class, of which Silver Moon is a part.”
“Silver Moon will be an innovative addition to our expanding fleet of ultra-luxury ships,” says Roberto Martinoli, Silversea’s President and CEO. “Building on the success of our beloved flagship Silver Muse, Silver Moon will push boundaries in travel to unlock meaningful experiences for our guests around the world. Our pioneering new S.A.L.T. program is just one way in which travelers will delve deep into destinations, and I look forward to personally welcoming our guests aboard Silver Moon in the near future. I extend my gratitude to the entire team at Fincantieri, who have demonstrates their skill and know-how; Captain Zanello and his officers, who have worked tirelessly; Silversea’s committed shoreside team for their enduring professionalism; and our colleagues at the Royal Caribbean Group, who continue to strengthen our cruise line with their invaluable support. The fact that our beautiful Silver Moon nears completion, despite such challenging circumstances, is a testament to the exceptional resilience and expertise of all involved in her build. For this I am very proud.”

Adam Sachs hosts S.A.L.T. Lab Radio, taking food & drink enthusiasts deep into the richest culinary cultures, in the true spirit of Silversea’s pioneering new culinary program.
(Monaco – July 28, 2020) Silversea Cruises today announces the launch of S.A.L.T. Lab Radio—a new culinary podcast, produced in the same immersive spirit as the cruise line’s pioneering S.A.L.T. program (Sea and Land Taste), which will use storytelling to unlock entire ecosystems around culinary discovery when it launches aboard new ship Silver Moon. S.A.L.T. Lab Radio is available to stream for free on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and Google Podcasts.
Hosted by Adam Sachs, Silversea’s Director of the S.A.L.T. program and former Editor-in-Chief of Saveur Magazine, and with special guest appearances from culinary experts, each episode of the new podcast will take listeners deep into the world’s richest culinary cultures. Its setting will change according to the geographical positioning of Silversea’s Silver Moon and the S.A.L.T. program. Along with Sachs, the podcast is co-produced by Howie Kahn, Rob Corso, and Casey Kahn at FreeTime Media.
“We could all use some transporting stories these days. And with grounded local experts to guide us, we can make connections to places that go beyond the usual chit-chat about where to eat and what to try where, though there will be plenty of practical useful advice for the hungry traveler too,” says Sachs. “We’ll follow the route of Silver Moon and meet up with passionate chefs, winemakers, informed food writers and other experts to help us appreciate the places we visit through the lens of what they grow and cook there.”
Sachs and team have travelled far and wide to digest the most engaging culinary stories and meet the most fascinating guests: recorded on location, S.A.L.T. Lab Radio will enable listeners to follow food to its source, to meet the people preserving culinary traditions, creating new ones, and teaching us all how to eat in more well-informed ways.
The first episode of the new podcast is available to stream for free on iTunes, Spotify, and Google Podcasts, as well as on Silversea’s blog:
EPISODE ONE: Legends of the Border: Friuli, Slovenia, Trieste
In S.A.L.T. Lab Radio’s first episode, Sachs speaks with three culinary innovators along the border of Italy and Slovenia: Ana Roš, widely regarded as Slovenia’s best chef and Co-Owner of Hiša Franko, the first restaurant in Slovenia to earn two Michelin Stars; Antonia Klugmann, Head Chef and Owner of the Michelin-starred restaurant L’Argine a Vencò in Collio, Italy; and Mateja Gravner, a Winemaker at the illustrious Gravner family winery, which straddles the Italy-Slovenia border and utilizes ancient winemaking techniques. As well as Ana’s quest to bring honor to her ingredients, the hurdles Mateja’s family faces, and the way Antonia draws influence from her complicated heritage, Sachs discusses Trieste’s most celebrated cookbook, ancient wine making techniques, and the world’s most surprising potato.
“Ana’s food reads like a Slovenian folktale filled with surprising twists and real wisdom. Mateja’s thoughts on wine sounded like a lesson on how to live your life. And Antonia’s personal and joyous cooking sheds light on a complex region,” says Sachs.
Additional episodes will be released in the coming weeks, with immersive dives into the culinary cultures of Albania, Sicily and Lisbon. Subsequently, as Silver Moon journeys towards the Caribbean and South America, additional series will take listeners deeper into the culinary cultures of these regions too.
“As the pioneering leader in the ultra-luxury cruise industry, we are always looking for innovative ways to respond to our guests’ needs, preferences and behaviors, and to enrich their travels,” says Barbara Muckermann, Silversea’s Chief Marketing Officer. “With anticipation growing around our soon-to-launch S.A.L.T. program, we have introduced our new podcast, S.A.L.T. Silversea Cruises Announces the Godmother of Silver Moon: Gaia Gaja, the ‘Queen of Barbaresco’
@Tim Akin
Rendering of Silver Moon
(Monaco – February 4, 2020) Hailed by many as the ‘Queen of Barbaresco,’ Gaia Gaja has been named as the Godmother of Silversea’s new ultra-luxury ship Silver Moon. Gaja is of the fifth generation to own and manage the renowned Gaja winery in the small Italian town of Barbaresco—a family-run business and iconic producer of fine Italian wine since 1859. As the ship’s Godmother, Gaja will be honored with officially naming Silver Moon at a dedicated ceremony in Trieste on August 5, 2020.
From an early age, Gaja was encouraged to take an interest in all aspects of the winemaking process, and even had a wine named in her honor—Gaia & Rey Chardonnay—before she learned to walk. Today, along with her two siblings, Gaja is a guardian of her family’s illustrious legacy, which has fostered an internationally acclaimed reputation as a leading producer of fine Italian wines. A knowledgeable purveyor of her craft, elegant, and with an unwavering commitment to exceptional quality, Gaia Gaja embodies the core values of Silversea Cruises. Moreover, the success of the Gaja Winery is predicated on a longstanding synergy between traditional knowledge and pioneering innovation, which stands true for the leading ultra-luxury cruise line.
“I feel great pride and honor to have been selected by Silversea Cruises as the Godmother of the beautiful Silver Moon,” says Gaia Gaja. “I passionately believe that food and drink facilitate profound discovery—into destinations, cultures and people—and that guests will nurture strong connections with amazing destinations as a result of S.A.L.T., the ship’s innovative culinary offering. My own experience with wine making has taught me that culinary discovery possesses limitless potential; here’s to the curious travelers who seek to unlock it.”
Gaja’s deeply-rooted connection with Italian culinary culture makes her the perfect choice for Silver Moon’s Godmother, as Silversea’s pioneering new culinary concept, S.A.L.T. (Sea and Land Taste), will launch with the ship on August 6, 2020.
Adapting with each sailed region, Silver Moon’s S.A.L.T. program will elevate the role of food and drink as a means to travel deeper into a destination, by showcasing entire ecosystems around the culinary cultures of the world. In the S.A.L.T. Kitchen, the S.A.L.T. Lab, and the S.A.L.T. Bar, guests will develop an appreciation for regional ingredients and culinary customs, before venturing ashore under the guidance of experts to experience food and drink cultures first-hand. As well as foods and flavors, people will define Silversea’s pioneering new culinary program: culinary experts—like Gaja—from around the world will use storytelling to form meaningful connections between Silversea’s curious guests and the world’s most remarkable places, cultures, and communities.
“Our new S.A.L.T. program reflects our commitment to engaging with the places we travel through the lens of food, wine and culinary culture,” says Manfredi Lefebvre d’Ovidio, Silversea’s Executive Chairman. “Given this culinary focus and Silver Moon’s proud Italian heritage, I can’t think of a better Godmother than Gaia Gaja who personifies Italian elegance, innovation and good taste. Like our cruise line, Gaia represents a lineage of excellence rooted in tradition and propelled by a forward-thinking, restless pursuit of innovation. I’m delighted she’ll be involved as Godmother, sharing her family’s vision of great taste as we begin this new journey aboard Silver Moon.”
