CELEBRITY CRUISES ANNOUNCES NEW PROTOCOLS; PAVING THE WAY FOR ALL TO RETURN TO SAILING

Beginning September 5 all guests can #JourneyWonderFULL as the brand drops vaccination requirements for most sailings from U.S. and European ports

MIAMI – August 22, 2022 – Celebrity Cruises® today announced new protocols for guests sailing from U.S. and European ports by dropping vaccination requirements and simplifying testing guidelines, making cruising more accessible and easier for travelers.

Beginning September 5, 2022, all guests, regardless of vaccination status, departing on most sailings from the U.S. and Europe can now cruise as long as they meet local testing requirements to board. Celebrity Cruises will also now accept any commercially available test, including unsupervised self-tests, in many destinations.

“A new world is waiting and I’m thrilled to now more closely align our operations with the rest of the travel industry and open up opportunities for everyone to explore, once again,” said Lisa Lutoff-Perlo, president and CEO of Celebrity Cruises. “Travel is making its grand comeback and we’re looking forward to the continued momentum from consumers around the world.”

Testing to Sail

New pre-boarding testing requirements for the U.S. and Europe include:

  • Fully vaccinated guests no longer need to test to board sailings from the U.S. that are nine nights or less (excluding sailings that visit Canada and Bermuda).

  • A negative test result from a simple, unsupervised and self-administered test will be accepted for all sailings (excluding sailings that visit Australia, Bermuda, Canada, Greece or New Zealand).

  • Children under 5 years of age sailing from the U.S. and guests under 12 years of age sailing from Europe do not need to test prior to boarding.

Requirements in Other Regions

While Celebrity Cruises has dropped vaccination requirements, sailings to and from ports in Canada, Australia and New Zealand require all guests ages 12 and up to be fully vaccinated to sail in keeping with country requirements. Galapagos cruises require guests ages 3 and older to be vaccinated.

For all sailings, detailed boarding information by country of embarkation is available on the Country Travel Requirements page of Celebrity Cruises’ HealthyAtSea.com portal.

Leading the Way

Celebrity Cruises paved the way for the industry’s safe return to sailing when Celebrity Edge became the first ship to resume U.S. sailings on June 26, 2021. Exactly one year later, Celebrity’s entire fleet of 15 award-winning ships had returned to operation, maintaining health and safety measures that exceed other types of vacations. The line is now sailing in the Caribbean, Alaska, Europe and the Galapagos. It returns to Australia and New Zealand this October.

Windstar Cruises Eliminates Pre-Cruise COVID-19 Tests

 All guests must be vaccinated

MIAMI, August 18, 2022 – Windstar Cruises has revised its COVID-19 protocols and procedures and will no longer require a pre-cruise COVID-19 test for embarking guests (unless required by one of the countries on our current scheduled itineraries).  These changes will go into effect for cruises departing on or after Sept. 6, 2022.

As part of its Beyond Ordinary Care health and safety program, Windstar will still require all guests to be fully vaccinated and show proof of COVID-19 vaccination.

The exception to this new testing procedure is that Windstar must follow the local rules and regulations of all the countries it visits and currently Canada, Greece, Australia and New Zealand (subject to change) still require COVID-19 pre-testing prior to boarding any ship in their respective waters.

“Safety and wellness are our first concern, and these new procedures will simplify the process of sailing with us on a fully vaccinated ship,” said Chris Prelog, President of Windstar Cruises.

In summary:

  1. All guests must be vaccinated and provide evidence of vaccination status prior to embarkation.  All Windstar crew are fully vaccinated and nearly all crew have received booster shots.

  2. Pre-cruise testing is no longer required in most countries

  3. The updated guidelines are subject to the local regulations of applicable homeports and destinations (presently that includes Canada, Greece, Australia and New Zealand on Windstar itineraries)

PRINCESS CRUISES REMOVES VACCINE REQUIREMENT FOR MOST VOYAGES, ELMINATES PRE-CRUISE TESTING FOR VACCINATED GUESTS

Unvaccinated Guests Required to Self-Test Within 3 Days of Sailing

SANTA CLARITA, Calif. (August 12, 2022) – Princess Cruises today announced updated COVID-19 protocols and guidelines, removing the vaccine requirement for most voyages of less than 16 days so that anyone can cruise, and adjusting pre-travel testing requirements to make it less complicated.

Starting Sept. 6, vaccinated guests sailing on voyages of less than 16 days will no longer have to test before boarding and only need to upload proof of vaccination while getting OceanReady. Unvaccinated guests, or those who do not provide proof of vaccination, on those itineraries will self-test within three days of sailing and upload proof of a negative test before boarding.

These new guidelines apply to itineraries from all departure ports except where government regulations and protocols may vary like Canada, Greece and Australia.

Below are the key points for Princess’ updated CruiseHealth guidelines for embarkation:

  • No pre-cruise testing for vaccinated guests on voyages of up to 15 nights (guests 5 and older) with the exception of full Panama Canal transits, trans-ocean and other special itineraries; unvaccinated guests must provide a negative self-test result taken within three days of embarkation (unvaccinated children under 5 years do not require pre-cruise testing)

  • Guests sailing on voyages 16 nights or longer, or sailing on full Panama Canal transits, trans-ocean and other specific itineraries, need to take a supervised test within three days of embarkation (guests 5 and older). Guests on these types of voyages will be contacted directly by an Ocean Navigator to assist.

Princess’ updated guidelines reflect the cruise line’s ongoing commitment to providing a safe and healthy environment for all guests and crew.

“These updated guidelines help ensure a Princess vacation is available to everyone,” said John Padgett, president of Princess Cruises. “The Princess experience is truly one-of-a-kind and we encourage everyone to take a Princess vacation that offers amazing service at unmatched value.”

The updated guidelines are subject to the local regulations of applicable homeports and destinations.

Azamara® Announces the Removal of Its Embarkation COVID-19 -Testing Requirement

Beginning July 25, the upmarket cruise line will no longer require pre-cruise COVID-19 -testing for guests, excluding ports where pre-travel testing is still needed

MIAMI, July 19, 2022  Azamara – the upmarket cruise line dedicated to Destination Immersion® experiences – is pleased to announce the removal of its COVID-19 embarkation testing requirement starting July 25, 2022, excluding ports where it is still required in accordance with country regulations.

To ensure the health and safety of its guests and crew, Azamara will still require proof of vaccination prior to embarkation. Azamara recommends that all guests departing from any port get tested at their leisure prior to travel to ensure a comfortable and enjoyable travel experience, but those results will not be required to board an Azamara vessel. The pre-cruise testing remains as a requirement for travelers embarking in a port where these protocols remain. In those cases, guests will still need to produce a negative COVID-19 test before sailing. A list of these ports is provided here

“The easing of our testing policy marks a step in the right direction towards a return to normalcy for the travel and cruising industry,” said President of Azamara, Carol Cabezas. “Cruising is one of the safest ways to travel, and our existing health and safety protocols onboard will ensure peace of mind for our guests and crew as we move forward.”

Azamara maintains a strong commitment to wellness through its ‘Explore Well at Sea’ program, keeping guests’ safety a top priority. The company still requires that all guests 12 years of age or older must be fully vaccinated at least 14 days before sailing with all required COVID-19 vaccine doses. Azamara crew are required to be fully vaccinated. COVID-19 testing will continue to be available to guests onboard as needed.

Is Cruising Safe in 2022?

CruiseReport’s 2022 Policy Position on Covid-19 and Cruise Travel

DISCLAIMER: The following article represents my personal opinions about the Covid-19 virus, vaccines and how they impact cruise travel. I am not a medical professional and many of my personal beliefs may be contrary to current public policy. Facebook has labeled my thoughts as dangerous with the potential to cause physical harm and/or injury. Read the words on this page at your own risk.

At this particular time in history, there are a lot of cruise enthusiasts who are concerned about the safety of cruise travel, as it pertains to Covid-19. As I am writing this, the Omicron variant of Covid-19 is on the decline. We recently disembarked a 7-night cruise which took place right in the middle of the Omicron outbreak. As a result, the ship was just over half full since many guests cancelled their cruise. The CDC has even issued a warning about cruise travel, advising Americans not to cruise, regardless of their vaccination status.

When we returned from our cruise, I attempted to explain on our Facebook page why we felt safe on Celebrity Cruises. My post was deleted by Facebook with a stern warning that the post was dangerous and the misinformation could contribute to physical harm.

We felt safe aboard our cruise because of the sanitation measures put in place by Celebrity Cruises, not because of any vaccine or mask requirements. These sanitation measures included having crew members serve food in the buffets (so that guests are not handling utensils), extensive cleaning of contact areas throughout the ship, and the prolific placement of hand sanitizer stations throughout the vessel. Most of these measures have been in place for quite some time to limit exposure to Norovirus and other intestinal viruses. And, while Norovirus is much more common in restaurants or hotels than on cruise lines, when there are cases aboard a cruise ship it gets national attention.

The same could be said for Covid-19. When there are cases of Covid on a cruise ship, it makes news. In part, this is because cruise lines are the only industry of which I am aware that report Covid cases to the CDC. For example, airlines do not. Restaurants do not. Theme parks do not. In spite of the CDC warnings, I personally believe the cleanest, safest place you can be is on a cruise ship.

While there is evidence to suggest that the vaccines do provide some protection from serious illness, hospitalizations and death from Covid-19, it is now accepted science that they do not prevent the spread of the virus. A vaccinated individual can still get, and spread, Covid-19 to others. For this reason, we can conclude that an unvaccinated individual poses no more of a threat to someone than a person who is vaccinated.

The current data, as well as scientific studies, also shows that the wearing of paper and/or cloth masks is ineffective at stopping the spread of the virus. N95 masks are more effective; however, wearing these masks for extended periods of time can restrict airflow and, with long-term use, could cause other health risks. Common sense would tell us that it makes no sense for cruise lines to enforce a mask policy that asks guests to wear a mask when walking around the ship, but allows them to remove masks when sitting in a bar or restaurant. These are some of the most crowded venues on a cruise ship.

I have also taken into consideration the actual threat posed by current variants of Covid-19. The Omicron variant appears to be more communicable, while at the same time, less virulent than previous variants. Some in the medical field suggest that this could be good news. The Omicron variant may spread rapidly, cause very little serious illness, while at the same time, leaving a massive amount of immunity in its wake.

It is not misinformation to claim that there has been insufficient long-term testing of these vaccines to indicate their safety or even their potential long-term side effects. Many doctors and scientists (and, of course, politicians and media) were saying that the vaccines were “safe and effective” before they were even released. I felt at the time that such claims were not credible. It normally takes years of testing and peer-reviewed studies to determine the safety of a drug, and that simply has not been the case with these medications. In addition, there has been a lack of transparency on the part of the drug companies to show their raw data and test results to the public. The big tech companies and big pharma are simply not allowing peer review of the data, or even allowing scientists and medical professionals with a different opinion to share their thoughts. And, that raises a concern.

I did get fully vaccinated, back when “fully vaccinated” was defined as two Pfizer jabs (or comparable). Now it appears the definition of “fully vaccinated” is changing, just like the definition of a “vaccine” was changed. Historically, according to the CDC’s website, a vaccine delivered “immunity” from a virus or disease. Once it became apparent that the Covid-19 vaccines DID NOT kill the virus thereby not providing immunity, the definition on the CDC website was modified by removing the word “immunity” and replacing it with “protection”. By comparison, the Smallpox vaccine kills the Smallpox virus and provides immunity from Smallpox. The same is true for the Polio vaccine and dozens of others. The Smallpox vaccine virtually eradicated Smallpox, but the current Covid-19 vaccines will not eradicate Covid-19. Therefore, claims that “if everyone would just get vaccinated, Covid will go away” are not based in science. And, anyone who has made this claim publicly is certainly guilty of spreading misinformation. Covid may go away, but it will not be because of the current “vaccines.”

Like millions of other Americans, I have concerns about these experimental drugs and their potential long-term effects. And, because the story has changed so many times over the past two years, I can no longer trust the CDC to deliver competent or accurate information. Originally, we were told that the vaccines would stop the spread of the virus. Now, the CDC says the vaccines DO NOT prevent the spread of the virus. That is a BIG DEAL in my mind. How did these life-long scientists and professionals get that wrong? Originally, we were told that masks were ineffective against the spread of the virus, then they changed the story to say that masks were necessary to stop the spread of the virus. Now, they are back to saying that the masks (non-N95) are ineffective. It makes one wonder if anyone at the CDC or NIH knows what the hell they are doing!

The popular narrative is that Americans who refuse to get the jab or boosters are crazy, irresponsible and have no concern for the health and safety of others. But, the vaccines only provide some protection for the vaccinated and do not prevent the spread of the virus. They also try to marginalize concerned Americans by calling them names like “Anti-Vaxxer”. I am not anti-vaccine. For one thing, I do not consider these experimental drugs to be vaccines. In my opinion, they are no different than the annual flu shot. But, I am not Anti-Jab or Anti-Vax. As I stated previously, I have been fully vaccinated (two Pfizer jabs). What big tech, politicians, and the media apparently do not want to accept is that millions of Americans DO NOT TRUST them to provide accurate information. In other words, they have often been the source of misinformation.

BOOSTERS

After careful consideration of the risks versus benefits of the booster shots, I have decided against getting additional booster shots at this time. I reserve the right to change my mind should additional data and science suggest that the boosters actually provide significant protection against future, more dangerous variants of Covid-19 than Omicron.

As it pertains to cruising, if a cruise line requires a booster for me to sail on their vessels, I will sadly have to decline that opportunity. I refuse to be injected with more experimental drugs which have not been fully tested or peer reviewed just so I can go on a cruise. My wish would be that the cruise industry would follow the real science and data and not blindly follow guidelines from the CDC, which tend to change every month.

Our Response to Current CDC Travel Advisory on Cruise Travel

CDC Travel Advisory

The Centers for Disease Control has issued a warning about cruise travel. As stated on their website:

Key Information for Cruise Ship Travelers

  • Avoid cruise travel, regardless of vaccination status.

  • Even fully vaccinated travelers may be at risk for getting and spreading COVID-19 variants.

  • The virus that causes COVID-19 spreads easily between people in close quarters on board ships, and the chance of getting COVID-19 on cruise ships is very high, even if you are fully vaccinated and have received a COVID-19 vaccine booster dose.

  • Outbreaks of COVID-19 have been reported on cruise ships.

  • If you travel on a cruise ship, make sure you are fully vaccinated before travel and get a COVID-19 vaccine booster dose if you are eligible.

  • People who go on a cruise should get tested 1–3 days before their trip and 3–5 days after their trip, regardless of vaccination status or symptoms

You can find the CDC guidance here.

Our Response

The first two bullet points shown above would indicate an admission by the CDC that the “vaccines" are not very effective. Even fully vaccinated travelers may be at risk for getting and spreading COVID-19 variants. Therefore, “vaccines” do not prevent getting or spreading the virus. Prior claims by the CDC and government officials promising an end to COVID-19 if everyone would just get vaccinated were apparently false and misleading. Unfortunately, these admissions now have many Americans questioning everything we have been told about COVID-19 and the “vaccines.”

The third bullet point The virus that causes COVID-19 spreads easily between people in close quarters on board ships, and the chance of getting COVID-19 on cruise ships is very high has us scratching our heads. Is the virus more likely to spread between people in close quarters on a cruise than it is in a restaurant? How about an airplane? What about people in close quarters in a grocery store, or perhaps standing in line waiting to get a Covid test? Yet, there are no warnings for these venues, only for cruise ships. Why?

The fourth bullet point from the CDC states that Outbreaks of COVID-19 have been reported on cruise ships. Since there have been a few thousand people testing positive on cruise ships, while hundreds of millions have tested positive around the world, would that not indicate that there have been many more outbreaks in places other than cruise ships?

The fifth bullet point is almost in contradiction with the first. If you travel on a cruise ship, make sure you are fully vaccinated before travel and get a COVID-19 vaccine booster dose if you are eligible. But wait, I thought the vaccine did not guarantee protection against contracting or spreading the virus?

The sixth bullet point is almost nonsensical. People who go on a cruise should get tested 1–3 days before their trip and 3–5 days after their trip, regardless of vaccination status or symptoms. Every cruise line that I am aware of has been requiring a negative COVID-19 test withing 2 days of boarding for the past several months. In fact, that is the CDC's own protocol! It is statements like this that make us question the competence of the people in charge of our health and safety.

Royal Caribbean recently reported that since the restart of cruise operations in 2021, 1.1 million guests have returned only 1,784 positive test results. That is a 0.02% positivity rate. Compare that with Ft. Worth, Texas that recently reported a 24% positivity rate! Royal Caribbean went on to report that of the 1784 positive cases, only 41 were hospitalized. And, there have been no hospitalizations with the Omicron variant.

The Omicron variant is rapidly replacing the Delta variant as the dominant variant, which is very good news since it appears to be much less virulent than previous variants. It is likely that sooner rather than later, everyone, regardless of 'vaccine' status will be exposed to the Omicron variant. Fortunately, many who are infected with the Omicron variant are asymptomatic and only become aware of the infection after having been tested. While the "vaccines" and boosters may reduce the risk of death, serious illness or hospitalizations from Omicron, they have little, if any, effect on transmission of Omicron.

We see no reason to change our future travel plans based on the CDC warnings for cruise travel. If you choose to do so, we believe that is your right. We base our travel decisions on sound science and common sense, not media hype or hyperbole.

America’s Cruise Line Now Operating 11 Ships from Seven U.S. Homeports

MIAMI, September 20, 2021 – With Carnival Dream and Carnival Glory resuming guest operations on Sept. 19, Carnival Cruise Line now has 11 ships – representing half of its U.S. fleet – sailing again.

Beginning with its return to guest operations on July 3 with Carnival Vista, the line is operating from seven U.S. homeports including Miami, Galveston, Seattle, Port Canaveral, Long Beach, Baltimore and New Orleans, providing guests with a wide range of options to get Back to Fun.

“Having half of our U.S. fleet back in operations provides positive economic impact in our homeports and port of call destinations, along with giving our guests their much-needed vacations and helping our crew support their families back home,” said Christine Duffy, president of Carnival Cruise Line. “We couldn’t have accomplished this without the support of our travel advisor partners, business partners and port and destinations partners.”

Carnival Dream became the third Carnival ship to operate year-round from Galveston when it departed this weekend on a six-day Caribbean cruise, while Carnival Glory is the first ship to set sail from the Port of New Orleans, operating a seven-day voyage to The Bahamas.

With 11 ships already in guest operations, including the introduction of Carnival’s newest and most innovative ship, Mardi Gras, additional vessels will resume service throughout the fall and into early 2022 as the line’s successful restart of operations continues.
