Day 7 - Day At Sea

The hightlight of today is a talk in The Theater by Captain Kate McCue.

Captain Kate McCue

Captain McCue shared an inspiring story about how she dreamed of working on a cruise ship since the age of 12 after her first cruise aboard The Big Red Boat with her family. Thanks to her hard work, dedication and the support of her family, she made her dream come true by becoming the first American female Captain of a “mega” cruise ship.

Captain McCue (or Captain Kate as she is often called) attended the California Maritime Academy.

After Captain McCue’s inspiring story, we enjoyed one last excellent performance by Jesse Hamilton, Jr.

If you have the opportunity to see Jesse Hamilton, Jr., his shows are excellent.

This afternoon we attended what has to the be the quirkiest trivia ever on a cruise ship. Bug Naked is the name of Captain Kate’s Egyptian Elf-Eared Sphynx cat, which is a hairless breed of cat. @BugNaked has more than 63,000 followers on Instagram, beating me my 62,000.

Well over 100 people showed up at The Club to answer trivia questions about Bug Naked and Captain Kate showed up with Bug in a baby carriage wrapped in a blanket and dressed in pajamas (Bug, not Captain Kate).

It was amazing how many questions people got correct and one person got every single answer correct.

BugNaked Trivia. What?

Before dinner this evening, we decided to check out World Class Bar (Deck 5 midship) for a pre-dinner cocktail. We soon learned that my order of Canadian Club was too pedestrian for this upscale bar. They have an impressive menu of specialty cocktails whose descriptions sound delicious.

Our waiter was able to procure a Crown Royal for me. The glassware here is very elegant and ads a nice touch of class.

For dinner this evening, we have reservations at Fine Cut Steakhouse (Deck 5 Midship, port side). This is Celebrity’s upscale steakhouse with an impressive menu of USDA Prime beef cuts.

My meal started with a crabcake, which was quite large and filled with crab chunks.

For my main course, I ordered the USDA Prime New York Strip which they claim has been dry aged for 30 days. So, was it any good? How did it compare to my all-time favorite cruise ship steak? Well, you will just have to wait for my Beyond Food and Dining Review on my YouTube channel coming soon. Make sure to subscribe!

It was a relaxing and fun day at sea aboard Celebrity Beyond. Tomorrow we will arrive back at Port Everglades and say goodbye to Captain Kate, Bug and Celebrity Beyond.
