NEW YORK, NY – NOVEMBER 22, 2016 – Uniworld Boutique River Cruise Collection announces a new immersive volunteer experience in India, in partnership with ME to WE and as a pre-cruise extension to its Golden Triangle & the Sacred Ganges itinerary. The Travel Corporation and seven of its award-winning brands—including Uniworld—and the TreadRight Foundation have launched a global partnership with ME to WE, a social enterprise that provides authentic products and experiences that make an impact, to provide travelers with a culturally-rich and socially-conscious opportunity to visit three iconic destinations across the globe.
Uniworld and ME to WE’s transformative experience in India brings guests to a community with ties to WE Charity to participate in a sustainable development project alongside local families. The partnership inspires guests to take their travels one step further as they begin their Uniworld experience working alongside locals in communities in the Rajasthan region. Throughout this five-day pre-cruise extension, guests will immerse themselves into the rural Indian lifestyle, laying the groundwork for a deeper understanding of the culture, people and geography.
Guests will get hands-on as they lay bricks for a new community classroom and help dig a new clean water system that will improve the irrigation process in the surrounding community. Guests will also participate in centuries-old traditional crafts like tie-dying and block-printing and visit the Kumbhalgarh Fort, the world’s second largest wall with a rich cultural history. To further build on cultural integration, guests are invited and encouraged to start their morning with yoga, a cultural exercise practiced throughout India that connects the mind and body.
“Uniworld is proud to partner with ME to WE, an enterprise that shares our commitment to delivering meaningful travel experiences to guests,” said Ellen Bettridge, President & CEO of Uniworld. “Through our global partnership, we aim to deliver an authentic journey that will leave our guests with a new perspective and deeper understanding of the world.”
Guests can book ME to WE Immersive Volunteer Trip extensions on remaining 2016, and any 2017 and 2018 Golden Triangle & the Sacred Ganges itineraries and will be accommodated at the Araveli Cottages and Tented Camp, a property with authentic Indian design, embellished with royal Rajasthani flair. These private cottages and luxury tents expose the breathtaking pink-hued Aravalli Mountains and contoured landscapes and offer space for guests to relax and recharge after exploring the intricate Indian countryside and more intimate communities. Daily meals featuring local Indian cuisine are prepared by ME to WE chefs who are able to accommodate those with dietary restrictions. All ground transfers, transportation and local sightseeing excursions are included and hosted by an expert guide.
Uniworld encourages guests to become involved in the charitable work of ME to WE. Half of ME to WE’s net profits are donated to its charitable partner, helping travelers make a lasting impact on the communities they visit. The other half of ME to WE’s net profits are reinvested to grow the enterprise and its social mission.
“Giving people better choices for a better world is at the very heart of ME to WE, which is why we’re so excited to partner with The Travel Corporation,” said Roxanne Joyal, CEO of ME to WE. “When you take a ME to WE Trip, you not only work in partnership with local community members, you also immerse yourself in a new culture, foster genuine connections and see the world through a new lens. It’s travel with a purpose.”
