Today, Koningsdam is sailing back to Port Everglades. A day at sea gives guests a chance to relax, enjoy all that this huge ship has to offer, or just sit out on a balcony and watch the ocean go by.
Lots of open deck space to enjoy a day at sea
We started the morning by joining a group of journalists for a behind the scenes galley tour. Executive Chef Hrgic was kind enough to explain the coordination necessary to prepare and serve thousands of meals each day.

As we walked through the galley, dozens of chefs were working to prepare a variety of dishes for this ship's lunch service. Everything is on a grand scale in a galley on a large ship.

Everyone in our group left the galley tour with a new appreciation for the hard work that goes on in the background to prepare the food we enjoy so much and often take for granted.
For lunch today, Rickee and I decided to try Lido Market on Deck 9. Lido Market is Koningsdam's buffet restaurant that is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. There are two serving lines with identical offerings, one port side and the other, starboard. There choices are seemingly endless and they change every day.
I visited the Distant Lands station for a rice bowl with a variety of pork, chicken and beef stir fry. Delicious!
We spent most of the afternoon exploring the outer deck area of Koningsdam, where most guests tend to congregate during the day. The Lido Pool is the hub of activity during the day. This pool is located amidships on Deck 9 and has the Holland America signature retractable roof. The roof makes the pool area usable during Alaska sailings. Three hot tubs get a lot of use during the day. A large video screen is used for movies by the pool in the evenings.
For dinner this evening, we visited Pinnacle Grill, Koningsdam's resident steak house. My meal started off with a crab cake appetizer consisting of two panko-breaded and fried crab cakes followed by a delicious Caesar Salad (which can be ordered with or without anchovies). My 12oz New York Strip was cooked medium rare and was accompanied by a side of creamed spinach and roasted Brussel sprouts.
We decided to skip dessert so that we could get a good seat for the BBC Earth Frozen Planet concert held in World Stage on Deck 3 forward. This concert combines live music with a backdrop of the breathtaking footage from the landmark BBC Earth television series, Frozen Planet.
Tomorrow, we disembark Koningsdam and head to Trump National Doral for a 3-day pre/post-cruise stay!
